An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Business Intelligence department at Mersey Care NHS FT.

The successful candidate will utilise the full Microsoft BI stack to create data loads for patient level costing systems and deliver reporting for customers within and external to the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be working within the Trust's Business Intelligence team and will liaise with the Finance team to lead on the technical aspects of the Trust's Patient Level Information and Costing System (PLICS) feeds.

The role will include technical solution design, technical documentation, implementation and maintenance.

The role will create automated feeds from Trust systems into and out of costing systems utilising the latest technologies in the Trust's data warehousing platforms.

The role will develop visualisations including dashboards, balanced score cards and reporting suites using the latest visualisation software available to the Trust. These reports will service the needs of Executive teams, Divisions and Directors to support the development of the Trust's Strategy and Financial Planning.

A key function will be to work with the Head of Costing to deliver activity information to feed into NHSI Costing Returns in line with the National Costs Collection framework.

Job responsibilities

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Work with teams to understand their data requirements and develop online reports and olap cubes that meet their needs.
  • Work with the Systems and Data Architect to integrate data from Trust systems into the Trust data warehouse
  • Develop the Trust ETL to deliver efficiencies in processing
  • Create and produce reports on the Trusts Executive Information System so as to provide high quality, accurate and timely information to assist decision making and support service provision within the Trust. This will enable monitoring of the Trusts performance by its staff and Commissioners.
  • Update the logical data model to reflect changes in Trust systems
  • Update the physical data model under guidance from the Systems and Data Architect
  • Provide an intelligence function to the wider Trust, encompassing triangulation of data from multiple systems into meaningful information
  • Provide modelling expertise to areas of the Trust looking to redevelop pathways
  • Develop new visualisations that allow greater insight into Trust services utilising new technologies, software and latest thinking around visualisation
  • Provide a benchmarking function for all aspects of Trust services
  • Support teams in the extraction and analysis of data.
  • Manage, mentor and coach staff
  • Manage the completion and submission of aggregate statutory returns and information to support audits etc.
  • Provide information on request to key stakeholders, and in line with Freedom of Information requirements.
  • Ensure that all information is of a high standard so as to accurately reflect performance and progress against standards and targets and to highlight any data quality issues to the Solutions and Data Architect.
  • Design automated aggregate performance reporting that allows ward to board vision and deliver products to underpin the Trust strategy, enforcing version control throughout.
  • Develop processes so as to provide assurances to the Trust Board on performance.
  • Work closely with the Trusts teams and divisions, participating in quality and business meetings and ensuring that any information issues are fed back.
  • Lead on the collation and storage of information from different sources to enable monitoring of performance against targets and objectives, capacity and business planning and benchmarking against other organisations.
  • Liaise with outside agencies, e.g. CCGs, TDA, CQC, Auditors etc. leading on submissions, adhoc reporting and queries.
  • Act as the first line of support for queries around the interpretation of information, targets and trends within the Trusts performance reports.
  • Work to tight deadlines in order to ensure that accurate information is made available to the Board, Committees, Divisional teams etc. as well as auditors and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop on the production of information to support business planning and business development.
  • Utilise performance reporting tools to identify areas of good and poor performance and to assist in the production of information statements etc. in order to support the delivery of perfect care.
  • Develop bespoke reports to enable analysis to improve practice.
  • Attend internal and external meetings when required as representative for the Informatics and Performance Improvement directorate.
  • Create and implement procedures and processes to promote the accuracy of information produced and the maintenance of high standards within the Performance Team.
