Our Estates and Facilities services are planned to transfer to CHoICE. CHoICE is a private limited company. It is owned by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. This transfer is planned for 1st July 2023. This post is included in that transfer. For external applicants, you will be offered NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions. These conditions will be protected under TUPE. This will be protected even if your start date is after 1st July 2023.

The salary range is based on on-call / enhancement of potential earnings. Maintenance Supervisor band 5 (AFC) is salaried between �27,055 - �32,934 with a contractual requirement to fulfil part of an on-call rota. The start salary is dependent on experience and will be placed on this pay scale. > �32,934 is payable from on-call arrangements and additional hours and is based on current employees' earnings within this role.

Main duties of the job

To have an understanding of a maintenance service electronic job reporting system, assessing the reported jobs, inputting data, dealing with queries and complaints, maintaining and updating the system as required, coordinating the work of the maintenance team and external contractors in conjunction with the Operational Estates Officer which covers reactive, planned and emergency maintenance throughout the Trust's estate. Providing support within the maintenance team in the provision of maintenance services ensuring that it fulfils its function effectively, economically and efficiently within legislation and guidance standards

Co-ordinating and monitor the work of contractors appointed to undertake maintenance

Forward looking in the delivery of planned, reactive, emergency maintenance and support activities in terms of agreed response times or planned schedules. Actively contribute, both personally and through subordinate staff in the promotion of high quality delivered services.

To provide and receive routine information in order to carry out tasks, inform work colleagues and contractors

Coordinating and carrying out related duties in the management of contractors, completing and issuing of all necessary paperwork, keys, contractor passes etc.

To communicate with staff at all levels, from estates workforce to executive directors, consultants.

Job responsibilities

Supervise, give engineering advice and have overall responsibility for engineering maintenance at Trust/associated properties with any combination of directly employed maintenance staff and contractors.

Authorised Person Mechanical and Pressure Systems (APMPS) for the Trust in accordance with JSP 375 and HSG 253 Safe Isolation of Equipment. Ensuring high standards of safety at all times, including the supervision, management & guiding of Skilled Persons (SPMPS).

Must be able to participate in the Engineering Managements Emergency On-call rota, training / site knowledge will be required ahead of participation.

To be responsible for the execution of allocated Category D requests and small capital schemes as directed.

Participate in the annual estates stores stocktaking (check)

Other Requirements

Essential

  • Able to meet travel requirements of the post.
  • Participation in the Engineering Managers Emergency On Call rota, which will include being able to meet the travel requirements associated with participation.
  • Able to complete / pass Authorised Person Mechanical & Pressure Systems Training to ensure Systems are safely maintained in accordance with duties as detailed in JSP 375 Volume 3 Chapter 4 & HSG 253


Qualifications

Essential

  • Must be a time served Mechanical Craftsperson with a minimum of five years (relevant) post apprenticeship experience.
  • Possess as a minimum City/Guilds Part 2 qualification in an appropriate subject area or equivalent.


Desirable

  • Have had training in 18th Edition, IEE Wiring Regulations.


Experience

Essential

  • Must have five years of working experience in a Hospital or similar environment.


Desirable

  • Experienced in a supervisory role.
  • Experienced in the management of external contractors
  • Experience of a Facilities Management software for purchasing, stock control, work allocation etc.
