12 month Fixed Term Post

We are seeking two Junior Medical Education Fellows who will work across the Medical Education Department and within the Urgent Care Division. It would ideally suit doctors wishing to expand their clinical teaching experience and is anticipated to appeal to those thinking of an F3 year, or those at core level.

This is a 12 month fixed term post working 50% WTE in education & 50% WTE in the Urgent Care Division (Emergency Medicine). The working pattern would be between two Doctors who would share a 1 standard SHO/F2 ED line. Therefore they are splitting the line 50:50. Night frequency would be 1:14 shifts (over a 14 week period they would do a week of nights). Weekend frequency would be 1:6 weekends (two long day weekend shifts each weekend). The Medical Education days would be mostly fixed.The post offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated doctor to join dynamic, rapidly expanding teams delivering medical undergraduate, multi-professional education and clinical services within the emergency medicine department.

Due to the short term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC, must have completed a Foundation Equivalent Programme and must have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application.

The successful candidate must have at least 6 months experience of working within the NHS and have a good understanding of UK medical undergraduate training.

Main duties of the job

Medical Education
  • Develop a working understanding of research and education design methodology as it relates to Medical Education.
  • Pursue and evidence a wide-ranging portfolio of teaching experience including: small group bedside teaching, class room based teaching, clinical skills, clinical simulation and the development of E-learning and other teaching resources.
  • Contribute to the supervision and feedback to undergraduate medical students in their trust, under the direction of an accredited educational supervisor

Emergency Medicine
  • Develop skills in managing patients to avoid unnecessary patient delays and maintain good clinical care to all patients.
  • Attend clinical educational opportunities where appropriate.
  • Maintain a portfolio of training and undertake an appraisal.
  • To participate in continuing professional development.
  • To participate in clinical audit and or quality improvement (QI) project

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment
  • MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Valid ALS certificate at the time of commencing post
  • Hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application


Desirable

  • Qualification in Medical Education


Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of commencing post, in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
  • Competent to work without direct clinical supervision, where appropriate
  • Knowledge, interest and commitment to research, clinical audit and/or quality improvement.


Desirable

  • Teaching role experience
  • ED experience as part of Foundation or other role
  • Publication or presentation to a national or international audience
  • Undertaken training or CPD related to teaching
