Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual from the nursing, midwifery or AHP workforces to join the UHNM Simulation team. The successful candidate will be pivotal to bringing together simulation opportunities for post-graduate foundation training programme and other clinical staff groups within the trust, as well as expanding and developing the simulation training on offer by increasing the use of the Extended Reality Lab at County Hospital.

The purpose-built Extended Reality Lab (ERL), based at the Postgraduate Medical Centre, County Hospital provides a flexible immersive learning environment, using motion capture cameras and four-wall video projection to mimic real-world scenarios. Together with our viewing gallery it's the perfect safe learning environment for any simulation training. The Postgraduate Centre also features a soundproof recording studio which will allow staff to create podcasts and share with a wider audience as well as a digital library.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the Foundation Programme Director and the Consultant Clinical Lead for Simulation Training to develop and deliver high quality multi-professional simulation and skills-based education to Postgraduate Doctors, Nurses and other professions allied to medicine and the multidisciplinary teams. While the educator role will predominantly be focussed on simulation-based training of Foundation Doctors, the post holder will be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of simulation training for other groups.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will serve as a technical expert and will be responsible for developing and maintaining the simulation suite and the high-fidelity human patient simulators (HPS), associated AV & IT equipment, and developing a high level of knowledge and skills in the use of medium to high fidelity HPS.

The post holder will be expected to develop their clinical and education skills to undertake debrief and lead simple simulation scenarios independently. The post holder would also play a key part in developing a wider simulation faculty at the Centre and be responsible for ensuring that all simulation educators adhere to and maintain appropriate standards and accreditation.

  • NMC registration or equivalent professional qualification
  • First Degree
  • Leadership qualification/evidence of recent leadership development


Desirable

  • Evidence of attending simulation educational activity
  • ALS provider


Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of practice based teaching using simulation
  • Experience of undertaking programme evaluation & audit
  • Able to deliver training in a clinical & non clinical environment with an understanding of risk management & clinical governance
