We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated CAMHS specialist clinician to join the Adolescent Mental Health pathway. This will be a busy, interesting, and varied job working with adolescents and their families/carers within the Adolescent Mental Health Team (AMHT).

The AMHT provides assessment and evidence based treatment to young people (13-17 years) presenting with significant and enduring mental health problems including psychosis, bipolar disorder, severe depression and OCD, as well as providing additional support to some high-risk young people in crisis. There is a focus on providing targeted care in the community and preventing admission and work closely with the local adolescent inpatient unit.

The post holder will join an experienced multi-disciplinary team of clinicians who provide a range of mental health assessment and treatment services to children, young people and their families. The post holder will take a leadership role within the team, including the possibility of service development. The post holder will provide comprehensive assessments for children and young people who have severe mental illness. Assessments may be carried out jointly with MDT colleagues and include at risk mental state assessments, family assessments and standardized assessments (such as the cognitive assessements, if trained or CAARMS assessment) where indicated.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a specialist and experienced clinician with a substantial knowledge of the field of child and adolescent mental health. The post holder will possess strong engagement skills, the ability to work creatively in relation to severe mental illnesses, including psychosis and young people at risk of inpatient admission, and work effectively with complex multi-agency networks, including inpatient adolescent units. It would be highly desirable for applicants to have some experience of working with young people at risk of inpatient admission, risk management and have experience of working and consulting in schools, children's social care and adolescent inpatient units. The post holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will have a high degree of professional autonomy, and will be expected to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

The post holder will be an experienced clinician in either Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Clinical/Educational/Counselling Psychology, Child Psychotherapy or Family Therapy with a substantial knowledge in the field of child and adolescent mental health, especially in the areas of adolescent mental health and crisis / risk management. They will be expected to contribute to the operational delivery of the AMHT as directed by the Clinical Team Lead.

Qualifications

Essential

• Qualification in appropriate mental health profession such as Nursing, Clinical/Educational/Counselling Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, Family Therapy.
• Registration with relevant UK governing body

Desirable

• Qualificatio ns/ training in specialist skills relevant to the post e.g. systemic therapies, neuropsyc hology, CBT, evidenced based parent work, evidence based group work etc.

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working with children and young people with a wide range of mental health problems, including in a CAMHS setting
• Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary way
• Experience in the routine use of CAMHS clinical outcomes

Desirable

• Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
• Prior experience of consulting and joint working with profession als from other services

Knowledge

Essential

• Evidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS
• Specialist clinical skills within specific therapeutic modalities.
• Knowledge of and skill in using a wide variety of CAMHS theories and interventions and the ability to use these appropriately in relation to client need and work setting
• Skills in the use of Information Technology and electronic patient record systems
