This is an exciting opportunity for a final year psychosexual therapist trainee to join the Sheffield Relationship and Sexual Service. We are ambitious in taking this service forward to ensure continued delivery of high-quality care. We are a growing team, seeking to deliver innovative interventions and pilot new treatment models.Since being reconfigured in 2022, the service has established pathways with departments in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. This means that whilst your key role will be to deliver psychosexual therapy to couples and individuals within the service, there will be opportunities for multi-disciplinary working across departments and Trusts. In the past, the clinic has had a high profile in delivering training to medical students and you will be able to participate in this as we take it forward again, as well as delivering training to other professional groups. Our recently opened Query Helpline means you would be involved in providing consultation to health care professionals requesting advice on psychosexual issues. To apply you will need to be in your final year of training as a psychosexual therapist, on a COSRT recognised Diploma or Master's course. You must be registered with COSRT as a student member. This is a preceptorship, 12-month fixed term post, which means that once qualified and registered with COSRT as a full member, you will be interviewed for the Band 6 Psychosexual Therapist position and if successful, progress to that role.

Main duties of the job

As a trainee psychosexual therapist, you will be responsible for assessing, formulating and implementing specialist, evidence-based interventions for service users referred into our service with sexual and relationship problems. You will have a sound knowledge of the bio-psycho-social practice of psychosexual therapy and be able to demonstrate how you draw on models such as cognitive behavioural, systemic, person-centered and psychodynamic in an integrated way to inform your work. It is expected that you will have some prior experience of working with the range issues that service users referred to the clinic are likely to present with. You must be able to work with both individuals and couples. We provide a flexible service for service users, offering face to face and remote working, so experience and competence in delivering psychosexual therapy in both domains is required. We are keen to explore the potential of developing groupwork and experience in this is desirable. You will need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Innovative thinking, passion and enthusiasm are key qualities we are looking for as well as the capacity to work under pressure, using sustained concentration and drawing upon your own resources. Excellent managerial supervision will be provided to support you in your role, and you will access your own external clinical supervision, funded by the Trust.

About us

We are passionate about providing the very best care to the people we support, and we're looking for amazing people who share this passion to join us.

What is it that makes our Trust such a special place to work? Well, it's all about the people. Our staff, service users, carers and families all come from such diverse backgrounds and all have expertise and stories to share.

It's important that you feel supported in your role, that the people who you work with are as passionate as you are and that your health and wellbeing is taken care of

If you're interested in developing your career, you'll have access to a range of training and education opportunities, including apprenticeships, work experience and placements, as well as the chance to get involved in research.

We are all very proud of the difference we make to people's lives each and every day and if that's something that you'd like to be part of we'd love to have you with us.
