Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated individuals to join Head &Neck team. We are looking for individual who is passionate about delivering cancer targets by ensuring a co-ordinated and smooth service for patients through their pathway.

The Cancer Patient Pathway Navigator role will be involved from the beginning of the patients pathway and will support the clinical teams in implementing early diagnostic pathways for patients with suspected cancer to achieve definitive diagnosis by day 28. They will ensure all patients move through the pathway without delay which will ultimately lead to a quicker diagnosis and treatment. This will also require to ensure patient care transferred to Cancer centers (other trust i.e St Georges or Royal Marsden) in a timely fashion and all necessary steps taken to avoid any delays in the pathway.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with different teams - internal and external stakeholders.

Post is for 37.5 hours per week and will involve working trust-wide and cancer centers occasionally. The hours will be 7.5 hours, Monday - Friday between 8 - 5.

Main duties of the job

Post holder need to have excellent communication skills to liaise with a wide range of health professionals to ensure tests and appointments are coordinated and scheduled in a timely manner. Any delays are escalated in real-time .

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of cancer targets and patient pathways. It is desirable that they have previous NHS experience in a patient-facing role, a good level of education, experience of using cancer database, clinical IT systems, and are competent in Microsoft Office packages. We are looking for enthusiastic and conscientious team players with excellent time-management and organizational skills who can work autonomously and well under pressure.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ in Business Administration or equivalent experience at a senior secretary level
  • Educated to GCSE Level, including in English Language and Mathematics. Typing Qualification or equivalent experience to at least 60wpm Shorthand Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of further appropriate studies


Experience

Essential

  • Ability and experience to undertake PA and secretarial duties at a senior level
  • Advanced knowledge and competence of all the following Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience of working with and managing complex information within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Extensive experience in diary and meeting management experience in a busy and complex organisation.

  • Ability to identify key issues, prioritise and initiate action
  • Ability to be proactive and exercise your own initiative within your sphere of responsibility and work as part of a team.
