Job summary

NHS West Sussex Talking Therapies is a high performing psychological therapies service providing support for anxiety and depression, operating across West Sussex that consistently delivers high quality dynamic interventions. We are seeking to appoint two Service Managers, one on a permanent basis to cover the Long Term Conditions team and another to provide maternity cover on a 12 month fixed term basis from October, covering the core team within West Sussex. Base location for the permanent post can be flexible although travel to nearby sites across West Sussex may be necessary. The maternity cover post will be based in Chichester / Bognor.

The post holder will work as part of the senior management team for West Sussex Talking Therapies, to lead a team of psychology practitioners, therapists and administrators and to support the realisation of the service's strategic ambitions. Main duties of the job

You will need to have a driving ambition to deliver an expanding service, excellent communication and leadership skills as well as an ability to function in a team leadership environment that enables junior staff to grow and excel. West Sussex Talking Therapies provides psychological therapies to large numbers of people experiencing anxiety and depression and you will have the support of an excellent senior team with great opportunities to develop your own leadership and project management skills.

The service covers West Sussex. This involves managing staff and other resources on behalf of Sussex Community Foundation Trust across this geographical region.

About us

West Sussex Talking Therapies is a well-established and high performing IAPT service providing a variety of psychological interventions in West Sussex. The service is split into four teams; North, South, West and Health - the latter covering all geographic regions in West Sussex, for patients with needs associated with their underlying long term health conditions. Each team is led by a Clinical Lead and Clinical Service Manager / Service Manager.

The teams are made up of a deputy clinical lead and deputy manager, senior psychological therapists, cognitive behavioural therapists, counsellors, psychological wellbeing practitioners, employment advisors and administrators.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will ensure effective line management responsibility for senior members of the clinical team (senior psychological therapists) and the deputy manager, and delivery of projects and initiatives across the service, that are in line with the IAPT manual and underpinned by robust clinical governance processes.They will be expected to work with the three other locality Service Managers, Clinical Leads, Digital Engagement Lead, Data Analysts and General Manager, amongst other members of the team. The post holder will fully support the service developments across the service. They will be responsible for building on partnership working with other services / sectors in area ensuring service is a fully integrated part of health, well-being and community services across West Sussex.

Key responsibilities will include contributing to the strategic development within the locality, maximising human and financial resources and the delivery of the key performance and quality indicators identified. This will be supported by high quality communications with all groups of staff.

The post holder will be expected to create an environment of continuous quality improvement, developing clinical practice and ensuring that delivery of care is regularly reviewed, embedding the CQC agenda.

Person Specification

Qualifications and/or Professional Registration

Essential

  • Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy/Nursing/Social Work /Clinical Psychology and Registration on appropriate professional body or Post-graduate degree
  • Clinical/post graduate management qualification or equivalent level of experience
  • Project Management qualification or experience


Desirable

  • Prince 2 Certified


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience (3 years or more) and demonstrable achievement in managing health/social care services.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders in the redesign of services
  • Experience of managing large teams through complex projects and change
  • Experience of managing a diverse practitioner team (multi-site)
  • Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with a range of health and social care professionals and patients
  • Experience of auditing, monitoring and evaluating effectiveness of services
  • Experience of leading successful bids
  • Experience of leading and managing large projects


Desirable

  • Experience of commissioning and utilising market research
  • Experience within the health or social care sector - NHS, private or third sector
  • Experience of managing a budget and delivering with finite resources


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Numerate and ability to understand financial analysis and modelling
  • Good project management skills and the ability to see through tasks to their successful conclusion within timescales and budgets
  • IT literacy, ability to use planning tools and techniques, e.g. Lean, productivity, Microsoft Project (or other Project Management software)
  • Ability to engage a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently on own initiative with limited supervision and part of team
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to use IT effectively including ability to produce written and statistical reports
  • Full driving licence or ability to move around West Sussex for appointments and Meetings
