Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity within the departments of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry and Orthodontics. The team treat a diverse range of patients referred from multiple specialties, designing, manufacturing and fitting custom-made maxillofacial prostheses on our dedicated patient clinics.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be competent in all areas of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and a knowledge of Restorative and Orthodontic appliances. Ability to be able to work autonomously to provide a high level of service to our patients and service users is required.
Applicants should be able to provide evidence of experience in the custom manufacture of facial prostheses and the ability to undertake complex orthognathic surgical planning. Previous experience of and understanding of 3D surgical planning of head and neck reconstruction and 3D orthognathic surgical planning is desirable.
About us
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department forms a clinical directorate together with ENT, Restorative Dentistry, Orthodontics and Plastic Surgery (externally provided) as part of the Coastal ISU. The department works closely with the ENT department particularly in the management of head and neck cancer.

Also organising your own workload and be responsible for ensuring the demands for the service are met within the timeframes agreed by the appropriate Consultants and clinical staff.

Essential
- Qualified Dental Technician holding B/Tec National Diploma in Dental Technology (or equivalent) as recognised by the GDC
- Advanced Level Dental Technology Qualification as recognised by the GDC (C&G Advanced Certificate, LCGI, HNC or BSc) through further study to masters level, or equivalent experience.
- Current registration with the GDC as a Dental Technician
Desirable
- IMPT (Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Technologists) Membership
Knowledge and experience
Essential
- Knowledge and experience of a wide range of specialised technical procedures (OMFS, Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Management experience

- IT competency
- Knowledge of Medical Devices Directive.
- Previous hospital experience
- Knowledge in digital work flow, 3D scanning and CAD/CAM technologies
