We have opportunities available for a Senior Rotational Pharmacist

Rotations will allow you to gain experience in the following areas Anticoagulation, Antimicrobials, NICU/Paeds and Maternity, Medical Specialties & High Cost Drugs, Surgical Specialties & High Cost Drugs, Intensive Care & AKI / Allergy, HIV & Patient Services, Oncology & Clinical Trials, Admissions & Governance.

Supported by Lead Pharmacists, each rotation offers an excellent opportunity to expand your knowledge, skills and training.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:
  • To show leadership and proactive development of the clinical pharmacy service.
  • To provide a specialist, patient-centred clinical pharmacy service.
  • To provide support to the directorate for pharmaceutical issues and advice, according to each rotation.
  • To lead a quality improvement project as defined in the pharmacy transformation plan, according to rotation.
  • To take part in and support the department and Trust audit programme.
  • To provide support for training of junior pharmacists, and deliver education and training to pharmacy, medical and nursing staff.
  • To undertake mentoring and appraisal of junior staff.
  • To contribute to the smooth running of the Pharmacy department and participate in the late duty, Saturday, bank holidays and emergency duty as per rota.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters degree in Pharmacy
  • GPhC registered
  • Completed / working towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or Clinical Pharmacy


Desirable

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or Clinical Pharmacy
  • RPS Faculty membership


Skills / Abilities

Essential

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office incl. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Aptitude for training and motivating others
  • To be an effective leader for a small team of pharmacists/technicians
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, and an ability to effectively prioritise
  • Ability to problem-solve
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a range of HCPs and patients
  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines


Desirable

  • Management experience, including carrying out appraisals & sickness management


Experience

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate extensive post-registration experience working in secondary care
  • Experience of providing a clinical pharmacy service to a variety of ward areas
  • Delivering in-house pharmacy teaching and training sessions
  • Conducting pharmacy and trust wide audits


Desirable

  • Innovation or service development experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NHS and clinical pharmacy services
  • An understand of current practice and policy relating to pharmacy and targets within the NHS
  • Knowledge of medical patients pharmaceutical care issues


Desirable

  • Awareness of quality and risk-management issues
  • Drug budget analysis and directorate reporting
