Job summary

To provide, with medical colleagues (as appropriate) a service in Geriatrics Medicine, designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.

There are 4 elderly care Consultants in Prince Philip Hospital. Dr Granville Morris who has interests in Parkinson's disease and stroke, Dr Kumar who has an interest in stroke and is the Healthboard lead for stroke, Dr Sheehan who has interests in frailty, community care and Parkinson's disease and Dr Haden who has commitments in Swansea University Medical School as deputy lead for assessment and is also the frailty attachment lead.

The Geriatrics unit covers 3 wards in Prince Philip Hospital including a 29 bedded stroke ward. There is also a busy day hospital.The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop general medical and eldery care experience in Prince Philip Hospital especially in the areas of stroke, Parkinson's disease, frailty and medical education

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop general medical and Elderly care experience in Prince Philip Hospital especially in the areas of stroke, Parkinson's disease, frailty and medical education.

All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are also required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisation regarding supervision.

You would work in the acute and chronic, secondary care setting. You would also take part in the acute medical in-patient service for adult age groups and be part of the General Medical on-call rota (this role being currently 1 in 11)

Supervision and training of junior staff will be part of the role as well as mentoring medical students from both Swansea and Cardiff Medical Schools. Many of the current physicians in Hywel Dda have honorary roles within the post-graduate Medical School at Swansea University.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to practice
  • -Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
  • MBBS or recognised equivalent

  • MRCP
