The successful candidate will be expected to provide a high quality holistic health management for patients detained within Durham Constabulary Custody Suites and forensic service throughout the County Durham and Darlington area.

Total Healthcare requires a permanent Custody Care Practitioner to work within its existing team of Forensic Practitioners and Forensic Medical Examiners. The purpose of the role is to provide high quality holistic forensic healthcare to detainees in Police Custody Suites throughout County Durham and other non-custody locations.

The role requires a high level of autonomous confidence and a sound knowledge of forensic

practices in order to provide the delivery of highly specialist healthcare to support the Criminal

Justice System in collaboration with Durham Constabulary.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Total Healthcare Service. To provide healthcare services to detainees in Police Custody and in non custodial settings. Provide specialist advice to detainees, detention staff, Police Officers or any other person involved in the detention process.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a motivated individual with clinical skills to provide healthcare within custodial setting.

Experience within Minor Injuries/illness is advantageous.

Must be willing to undertake Forensic training.

You must be an excellent role model, able to facilitate change and service improvements.

  • Current NMC of HPC registration


Special Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of the Criminal Justice system and National Agenda
  • Working Knowledge of PACE 1984, RTA sec 5, Police reform Act 2000.
  • Working knowledge of the Safer Detention and handlingof persons in police custody guidelines 2006


Desirable

  • Completion of all in house Custody related courses


Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN or Qualified Paramedic
  • Degree Level Qualification or equivalent in a health related area
  • Accredited Clinical Skills Course
  • Teaching and Assessing Qualification or relevant experience


Desirable

  • FFLM or UKAFN Membership
  • Forensic qualifications
  • Accredited Forensic/Custody related qualifications
  • Prescribing qualification


Special Requirements

Essential

  • Successful Non Police Personnel Vetting Level 2 approval
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to drive in all weather conditions, at all times of day across the County to fulfil the requirements of the post


Desirable

  • Current NPPV level 2 vetting approval
  • Able to use NSPIS, MS Office, SystmOne


Experience

Essential

  • Experience within a custodial setting, minor injury unit or accident and emergency environment.
  • Experience of working in a changing environment
