Job summary

We are looking to recruit a motivated & innovative Dietitian to join us as a maternity cover for our Team Lead & Clinical Lead Stroke Dietitian. As well as being the lead for Acute Stroke, this role supports acute surgical & intensive care specialities & the Acute Dietetic team to deliver high quality care as part of an established MDT.

Our team consists of approximately 30 Dietitians, 9 Dietetic Assistants & 7 Administrators based at:
  • Avenue House, Eastbourne
  • Conquest Hospital, Hastings
  • Bexhill Irvine Unit, Bexhill Health Centre & Bexhill Hospital, Bexhill
  • Eastbourne District General Hospital

To support the development, implementation & evaluation of a seamless stroke nutrition service across the stroke pathway from acute to community with relevant MDT members, including Community Stroke Rehab colleagues & Head of Dietetics

Main duties of the job

As team/clinical Lead you will be responsible for the specialist nutrition & dietetic management in patients referred for nutritional advice in acute hospitals (including oral nutrition support, enteral & parenteral nutrition support, assessment & treatment). You will be responsible for planning & prioritising of own clinical caseload, including all adult patients & critical care wards & outpatients any other comorbidities as directed by Head of Service

Part of the role is to develop, implement & monitor training to patients & professionals within the dietetics pathway in conjunction with other clinical & team lead Dietitians.

The role involves supporting line management of acute roles & develop the work jointly with other clinical & team leads, for newly qualified, students & support worker roles

In order to develop, implement & evaluate a seamless nutrition service across the surgical pathways from acute to community you will identify & undertake regular audit of services provided; participating in research as identified. Work at continuously improving standards of patient care & wider multi-disciplinary team working alongside relevant MDT members & Service/Professional Lead for Dietetics

To support line management of acute dietetic roles & develop the workjointly with the clinical lead & team lead for stroke for newlyqualified & support worker roles

Qualifications

Essential

  • 4 Year degree in Dietetics or equivalent
  • Current state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of continued professional development to Masters level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience


Desirable

  • Postgraduate training in behavioural change techniques


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in general dietetic practice and time in specialist stroke dietetic practice.
  • Experience of enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Conducting patient and other health professional group education
  • Training of Student Dietitians and staff
  • Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment
  • Computer aided dietary assessment


Desirable

  • Experience of assessing and treating critical care patients


Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound clinical knowledge based on current best practice
  • Knowledge of current issues and research relating to dietetics
  • In depth knowledge of prescribable oral nutritional supplements, enteral feeds and other dietetic productss
  • Communicate information accurately, effectively and sensitively to a wide range of people including other professionals, patients, relatives and carers.
  • British Dietetic Association - Statement of Conduct and awareness of relevant NICE guidelines
  • Function, components and benefits of clinical supervision
  • Motivate others using negotiation and influencing skills
  • To be able to write detailed reports and maintain accurate records
  • Teaching / supervisory skills on a one to one and group basis
  • To work as part of a team and independently as required
