The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust became a new enlarged organisation on 1 July 2014. We now consist of the Royal Free Hospital, Barnet Hospital and Chase Farm Hospital.
We are offering exciting opportunities for newly qualified and experienced midwives to join our team. We provide maternity services across a large part of North and Central London. We also have services based across the community.
Joining together has meant that we have been able to expand in many areas of midwifery. This includes having 3 consultant midwives, midwifery teams leading on complex psychosocial care. We also have two alongside Birth Centres and one stand-alone at the Edgware Birth Centre. A comprehensive preceptorship program is offered to all newly qualified midwives. Your preference of hospital site will be discussed with you at interview

Job responsibilities
Provide a high standard of midwifery care to mothers and babies duringthe antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.
Take autonomous clinical decisions in an emergency to ensure safeoutcomes for mother and baby
Able to work as an autonomous practitioner in all aspects of midwiferypractice
Carry out risk assessments in the hospital, birth centres and communitysettings and safely manage obstetric and neonatal emergenciesincluding emergency situations when medical help is not available
Develop and maintain clinical competencies and be aware of currentadvances, expectations and needs of the service.
Be responsible for the implementation of evidence based midwifery andmedical practice.
Manage complex situations sensitively and effectively. Process andmanage complex information regarding client care where there areconflicts. Communicate effectively with multi-professional team andclient. Manage language barriers by appropriate use/booking of linkworkers.
Provide emergency cover if able, and at short notice, for unexpectedabsence/sickness across all services.
Ensure that attitudes displayed by the staff towards anyone who entersthe work area are courteous and helpful -maintain Trust BehaviourStandards
Ability to prioritise workload and appropriate assess individual clients andservice needs
Establish a good rapport with mothers and their relatives
Ensure clients satisfaction in relation to their care
Provide preceptorship support to all new members of staff
Use of advocacy, counselling, negotiating and liaising skills betweenclient and multidisciplinary team.
Use appropriate physical skills acquired through experience and/oreducation
Maintain the custody of drugs and medicines according to the Misuse ofDrugs Act.
Participate in internal rotation to day and night duty within any clinicalarea of the Midwifery Service across all sites as defined in off duty rotas.For Community, this will include full on call rota to cover the communityand Birth Centres
Make suggestions for and co operate in improvements planned for theservice
Awareness of Trusts Complaints Policy and take appropriate actionwhen required.

- NMC Part 10 register or equivalent
- Experience (placement or post grad) within both the wards and delivery suite areas

- Evidence of professional updating
- Academic and/or professional/vocational training and development

- Minimum introduction to IV cannulations, suturing, scrubbing in theatre, epidural top ups, resuscitation of new born

- Previous experience working as a midwife/Band 5 grade nurse. Working in an environment where 'normality in midwifery' is the main focus (MLC) unit. Previous experience working in a community setting.
