Job description

Job responsibilities

The aim of this fellowship is to enable the fellow to undertake an active part in the SCReaM Human Factor and Team Resource Management (TRM) programme and undertake a patient safety, quality improvement or research project whilst developing a sound understanding of human factors and ergonomics, patient safety, clinical risk management, quality improvement, and change management. In particular, the successful candidate will take a lead role in the delivery and further development of the SCReaM programme. Conceived and launched across two large acute NHS Trusts in 2016, SCReaM is an innovative initiative to improve team performance and staff and patient wellbeing and safety, through CRM training of substantive theatre teams, supported by Crew Resource Management (CRM) instructors from the aviation industry and other high performance industries. Central to this has been the introduction of a new cognitive aid, the SCReaM emergency prompt cards, for use during adverse events in theatres. This is the first designed aid for this purpose and been in use for several years. The AAGBIs recent launch of the Quick Reference Handbook, analogous to the SCReaM prompt cards, has led to increasing interest in this area globally. We are already near completion of one research study in this area, in collaboration with the University of Surrey, with several further research projects and QI projects in development. The initiative is being increasingly expanded to other parts of the Trust and externally.
