Job summary

Autonomous responsibility and accountability for providing a high-quality, professional and efficient medical secretarial service managing secretaries across East sites at UHSussex.

Responsible for the line management of all Medical Secretaries within Women & Children's including allocation of work, training and development, staff appraisal and recruitment and selection.

Main duties of the job

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to provide management and leadership to our Women and Children's Secretarial Teams working across UHS NHS Foundation Trust Eastern sites.

Accountable to the Operations Manager you will work closely with clinicians and Directorate teams to deliver a first class secretarial service.

The successful candidate will require excellent organisational skills, demonstrate the ability to work independently, using their own initiative and be willing to be adaptable and flexible to meet the needs of the Service.

We are looking for an experienced lead that will be responsible for the operational management of the secretarial teams, providing leadership and support, prioritising work as required on a daily basis.

Person Specification



  • Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a Medical Secretary/PA or equivalent administrative role
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Highly motivated and able to motivate others
  • Able to develop and implement standards, guidance, policies and procedures
  • Experience of staff supervision and leadership
  • IT skills including Microsoft Office
