An excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and suitably experienced individual to contribute to a rapidly developing service. The successful applicant will, as part of a team, be involved with the day-to-day running of the main histopathology laboratory.The department supports ROSE clinics, a Mohs service & there is scanning equipment to support the digital agenda. The post-holder will be encouraged to participate in this project as we progress to a fully digitised pathology serviceThe department operates 6am-7pmMon-Fri&Sat7am-5pm. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the rotational Bank Holiday service-approx. 1 per annum, currently notChristmasDay, Boxing Day,New Year's Dayor GoodFriday, & the 'on-call' rota.
Main duties of the job
WHAT YOU'LL DOAs part of a small team, you will be involved in the day-to-day running of the main laboratory within the department.In conjunction with the cellular pathology quality lead & senior biomedical scientist team, you will ensure that the area continues to meet all quality standards required & all relevant documentation in preparation for UKAS accreditation visits is available & continues to be kept up to date.You will be involved with the UKNEQAS CPT EQA submissions for the area as required, highlighting & responding to any non-conformities raised.You will supervise & train staff as directed and required.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORYou will need to be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist with comprehensive experience in Cellular Pathology.You will need to be an excellent communicator & be able to work effectively as part of large team.You will need to have an excellent attention to detail & possess good manual dexterity.You will need to be able to prioritise workload & adjust to accommodate unexpected events &/or changes in demands.

Qualifications / training required
Essential
- Be educated to degree level and possess an appropriate BSc qualification
- Registered Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council.
- Participation in Continuing Professional Development(CPD)
- Have evidence of laboratory training courses and competence
Desirable
- Hold or working towards IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology
- Hold or working toward a relevant MSc or equivalent qualification.
Previous or relevant experience necessary

- Significant previous experience in a busy Cellular Pathology department
- Significant technical expertise in the field of diagnostic cellular pathology
- Experience of employment in an establishment delivering high standards of quality output.
- Have knowledge and experience of using hospital IT systems
