We have an exciting opportunity to join our band 6 Occupational Therapy Rotation. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates to come and join our teams.

We currently offer a wide range of rotations across A& E, Frailty at the front door, Acute Assessment areas, medical inpatient Wards, Elective and Emergency Surgical inpatient Wards, Orthopaedics (Trauma & Elective), Neuro (Acute, Specialist Rehab Centre and Early Supported Discharge Team), DME inpatients and general rehab.

This rotational position looking to provide opportunities to develop band 6 skills across a range of clinical settings. We offer 6 monthly rotations through the teams with opportunities to learn the clinical specialities and develop leadership skills.

There are opportunities to engage in training and development, innovative practice and service development. We are also looking to work with partnership organisations to offer opportunities to work in community settings.

You will have professional support for your CPD from Band 7 Therapy team Leaders andsupport from Senior Occupational Therapists from other specialities as required.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic occupational therapist who can

- Assesses and treats own caseload of patients / clients in a speciality and maintains associated records.- To have a responsibility for Training & Development of occupational therapy staff, students and other staff groups in this speciality. Supervise less experienced occupational therapists, assistants and students.- Participates as a member of the therapy team and the MDT within a specified clinical area- Has a responsibility re-own CPD and other developmental activities.- Involvement in identifying and carrying out departmental audit, research or service development activity.- Participates in weekend, evening and Bank Holiday on-call for acute respiratory patients.- Participates in providing 7-day services and extended working day, as required by the service. (Some of our services work on extended hours rotas working between 8 am and 8pm.)

Person Specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training


  • Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC (or student Occupational Therapist with qualification pending)
  • HCPC registration
  • Appropriate experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist/ Previous care experience
  • Core Rotations as a Band 5 Therapists in a range of core areas: Orthopaedics, Medical or Frailty Inpatients & Neurological Rehabilitation


  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or similar

Knowledge and Skills


  • Basic computer skills

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training


  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary team


  • Active collection of relevant CPD in portfolio
  • High level of clinical reasoning with excellent theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of needs of patient and appropriate action to take
  • Demonstrate awareness of the roles of others in providing patient care and ability to work as an effective team member
  • Experience supervising junior, students or non-qualified staff
  • Student Educator Course

Knowledge and Skills


  • Well developed theoretical knowledge under pinning Occupational Therapy practice
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good analytical, problem solving and clinical reasoning skills


  • Knowledge and experience in hospital computer system
  • Ability to communicate within difficult circumstances and demonstrate empathetic approach to patients
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), analytical, problem solving skills and clinical reasoning
  • Understanding of national issues and relating them to own clinical practice

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in order to support others and needs of the service
  • Good organisational skills


  • Ability to show initiative but understanding when to refer to trained staff
  • Ability to organise own workload and administrational procedures
