This is a large trust with 7,200 staff, 1,200 inpatient beds and 28 operating theatres serving a population of 675,000 local people and 2 million with our tertiary services. We are the 10th busiest trauma receiving unit in the UK. We host the countrys largest Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit, treating current and former members of the armed forces and their families. We are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission.

We are proud of the multidisciplinary team we have built across our Medicine Teams, and are looking to grow with the appointment of Locally Employed Core Medics who wish to rotate through a selection of Older Peoples Medicine, Acute Medicine, General Medicine and a variety of medical subspecialties including Renal Medicine, Haemato-Oncology, Respiratory, Cardiology and Gastroenterology. There may also be opportunities for Locally Employed Doctors to spend some time in Emergency Medicine depending on previous experience and future progression plans.

The successful candidates will have full GMC registration in place at interview and previous clinical experience within a relevant speciality.

Main duties of the job

We have an excellent record of junior doctors progressing on to formal training programmes. We have an active research unit, working in partnership with the University of Portsmouth, and currently have a number of projects developed by our junior colleagues achieving presentation and publication. Job responsibilities

Queen Alexandra Hospital is a busy hospital with multiple different specialty services including cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, neurology, renal, older persons medicine, stroke, oncology and haematology along with the acute medical unit. This job provides the opportunity to rotate through relevant medical specialities to help broaden experience and knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

The post holders will contribute to the delivery of a high quality service, helping to drive a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the specialty.

Duties will include

1. Review patients transferred from AMU

2. Reviewing patients on the wards, as part of the medical team

3. Providing support for Foundation Doctors working in the team including carrying out and supervising bedside procedures

4. Ensure discharge summaries are completed in a timely manner and communicate with GPs and other clinical colleagues as required.

5. Maintain continued professional development.

6. Attend educational and multidisciplinary sessions.

7. Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave

8. Participation in the out of hours rota

Person Specification

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Experience of the NHS and NHS working.
  • Flexible working practice and a desire to assist the Service to innovate and move forward in a changing medical world.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge.
  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based practice.
  • IT skills.
  • Effective, confident presentation ability.
  • Experience in and outside speciality.


Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical risk management.
