Job summary

Band 6 Sister/Charge nurse working on ward 14 general surgery, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Under the Supervision of the ward manager.

Main duties of the job

To support the Senior Sister in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care and services for a variety of patients.

To provide clinical and managerial leadership for nursing and support staff and to take responsibility in the absence of the Senior Sister.

To work within the NMC code of professional practice, and within policies, procedures andguidelines of Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust. To ensure that high standards of nursing care are given and maintained. And act whenstandards are not being maintained Act as a clinical role model, ensuring clinical expertise and practice is enhanced To provide mentorship and preceptorship as required To support the Senior Sister in providing a suitable & effective learning and developmentenvironment for students and other staff members. To take responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance, includingidentifying own development needs and maintain own portfolio in accordance with reregistrationrequirements .

  • First level Registration
  • Evidence of Teaching/Mentoring skills


Experience

  • General Surgery


Training

  • Responsible for own post basic education
  • Experience of training other members of staff

  • Recruitment and selection


Special Knowledge/ Expertise

  • Cannulation/venepuncture skills
  • Knowledge of conditions and treatment within sphere of practice
  • Knowledge of local and national initiatives

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster multi-disciplinary working.
  • Works within budgetary parameters
