The post holder will lead and develop the information management and analysis function within the directorate that supports decision-making within the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will play a significant role in contributing to the strategic development of information functions to maximise benefits to the organisation.

A number of exciting business intelligence (BI) projects are being carried out within the IM& T directorate and many more are in the roadmap. Successful candidate will be leading relevant technical functions in those projects, which will ultimately make significant contribution to the patient care the Trust provides.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to lead, influence, and negotiate to drive forward the development of business intelligence processes, functions, tools, lead, train and assist the wider informatics team to develop technical solutions for reporting requirements, including automation of reports and processes, and the use of data visualization tools such as Power BI, or similar tools.

As a member of the Transformation Directorate and operating across all functional teams making up the directorate, including Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Informatics, Estates & Facilities (E& F) as well as Information Governance & Security, the Business Intelligence (BI) and Systems Lead will be responsible for managing Systems and BI Reporting functions in the Trust covering both our clinical and education activities.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead on the development of the Trust data warehouse, including all phases of planning, designing, development, training and roll out to the Trust Directorates.

The data warehouse to act as central data repository and will take datafeeds from various Trust systems such as Clinical Systems, Student Education Systems (SITS), HR, Finance, Data Quality and other information systems to support Trust wide reporting.The post holder will be responsible for managing the Data Warehouse, and where required, supporting other SQL based systems and Power BI reporting solutions. Responsibilities include ensuring that the data model, data loading, and information reporting is reliable, and that internal and external deadlines are consistently met.

Remote working:

The Informatics team is currently operating remotely. But team members are required to come on site if required or decided by the management.

Interview & technical test:

There will be a 20/30-minute technical test comprising of advanced SQL, Power BI and Data warehouse related questions.

Person Specification

Qualification/Training/Educati

Essential

  • Good academic background. Educated to master level in a similar subject or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development i.e., attending short courses (SQL, SQL Reporting Services, XML, Java Script), and self-study.


Previous Experience

Essential

  • oPrevious demonstrable Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse or DBA experience
  • Current working knowledge and experience of using SQL and Business Objects
  • oPrevious demonstrable experience operating in an analyst capacity in a technical environment
  • oExperience of the whole project life-cycle and a structured project management methodology


Desirable

  • Experience of NHS Information provision, local and national requirements


Skills

Essential

  • Be a fluent and effective communicator at all levels.
  • Skilled negotiator able to develop relationships and manage stakeholders within IT, the business and IT third parties
  • Excellent understanding of data modelling, report development, performance tuning and query optimisation techniques


Desirable

  • Development of strategic plans


Knowledge

Essential

  • oExpert Knowledge of Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse tools and concepts
  • oITIL principles and procedures.
