The Education and Development AHP Lead is looking to appoint a talented individual as the AHP Student Placement Lead for an exciting 12 month project to develop/increase sustainable AHP student placements/explore role emerging placements and implement a new BSW placement capacity management system called 'InPlace'.

Joining the 12 month project will also be a Band 6 Clinical Practice Educator and Band 4 Student Placement Support Officer to support with implementing these project outcomes and you will work collaboratively with the existing Student Placement Team in the Academy.

The team will also support with the new BSW multi professional preceptorship programme that is being developed by the Trust preceptorship lead and also link with recruitment and relevant leads to promote and support Return To Practice for AHP's.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a specific project to develop, support and expand Allied Health Professional student placement capacity within Great Western Hospital. You will work closely with the student placement team, heads of service and practice educators across the AHP professional groups. The aim is to ensure that GWH builds its student placement offer and ensures that we can continue to offer and build on our safe, effective and high-quality learning experiences for our student learners.

The post holder will support colleagues within the placement setting, ensuring they are supported, prepared within their role, facilitating relationships between the trust and the Health Educational Institutes. Acting as a role model and mentor to support the delivery of a high-quality evidence-based learning environment which meets the needs of the students and meets the requirements of NHSE.

You will lead the on the implementation of the new BSW 'InPlace' capacity management system for AHP's within GWH.

The post holder will work with the GWH Preceptorship leads and AHP education and Development lead to develop the preceptorship programme to our AHP colleagues.

The post holder will be responsible for the AHP Return to Practice programme and will work closely with the relevant AHP professional groups as required.

Job responsibilities

1. Map the existing AHP clinical placements and AHP Clinical educators across GWH2. Map clinical educators and their relevant training and development across AHP3. Lead the introduction of the BSW In place placement allocation tool across GWH4. Assess the current learning environments and placements offered within GWH,5. Support the heads of service or allocated AHP student placement leads to Plan and facilitate student learning and clinical placements, liaise with HEIs to develop capacity.6. Develop and provide clinical learning opportunities and programmes for students, mentors / educators and staff including mentor updates and induction for students

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
  • Teaching and assessing qualification e.g. FLAP or equivalent


Desirable

  • Leadership or Management qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working within an acute hospital environment
  • Up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice within speciality area and application of this in practice
  • Significant post registration experience at band 6 or above
  • Understanding and application of the principles of clinical governance, risk and safety management, clinical auditing and assurance framework
  • Evidence of practical application of leadership qualities
  • Experience of working as a mentor/preceptor
  • Understanding and application of effective budgetary management
  • Understanding and application of human resource management
