An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated registered nurse to join our Hyper Acute and Acute Stroke Unit based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. The unit provides emergency stroke treatments including intravenous thrombolysis (24/7 service) and has recently expanded to provide a thrombectomy service seven days a week. As a Band 5 nurse you will care for patients either in the hyper or acute phase following a stroke

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic nurse with a passion for delivering high standards of care, whilst working with compassion and kindness towards our patients and each other.

We work together as a large multidisciplinary team, all striving with a shared vision to help our patients recover with maximum independence.

The multi-disciplinary team work closely within stroke services and have regular contact with other hospitals within the network therefore, excellent communication skills are essential for this job role.

You will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and specialist skills in the assessment of stroke and to support patients through their stroke pathway, post interventional treatments, as well as supporting patients in their early phase of rehabilitation and discharge.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is responsible for undertaking and recording acomprehensive nursing assessment and planning, delivering and evaluatinghigh standards of evidenced based nursing care to a diverse group ofpatients.

Is expected to deliver care without direct supervision. Is accountable forthe care delivered and any omissions of care.

Is expected to teach and supervise more junior staff, students and the nonregistered nursing workforce.

Is accountable for care or any omissions of care that he/she delegates toothers

Is expected to act as role model, delivering care with empathy andcompassion as part of a multidisciplinary team

Job responsibilities

Assesses the needs of patients/families and carers plans, delivers and evaluates high standards of evidenced based nursing care. Demonstrates concise, accurate, timely record keeping, including both written and electronic records.

Displays excellent analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations.

Practices in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Councils Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses and midwives and Trust policies, protocols and guidelines. Is accountable for own practice and for appropriate delegation of care he/she gives to colleagues, nursing support workers and students.

Recognises deterioration in the physical or mental condition of the patient and takes timely action, appropriately referring to others or working with other agencies as required.

Recognises, responds to and appropriately manages emergency situations.

Develops competences and practices relevant clinical skills required to deliver care to the patient/client group e.g. venepuncture, cannulation, male catheterization.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse -part 1
  • Current NMC registration
  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development


Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or working towards


Experience

Essential

  • Experience (through placement or employment ) of working in an acute clinical environment


Desirable

  • Experience in speciality may be an advantage
