The Orthopaedic OPD Manager position is responsible for the smooth running of all day-to-day operations within the department as well as overseeing and leading on service transformation.

Please note this position is fixed term/secondment contract for 12 months. If you are applying for a secondment please ensure you have permission from your line manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

  • Take responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day management and nursing care provided by the Orthopaedic Outpatients and Fracture Clinics.
  • Setting standards of care in conjunction with other disciplines, co-ordinate services so that total patient care needs are identified; ensuring individual patient care is given. This involves regular reviewing and updating of patient information, working protocols and pathways.
  • This post will provide managerial advice and support to staff and patients.
  • The successful candidate will maintain a safe working environment, being aware of the necessity to comply with Health & Safety regulations, maintenance and provision of equipment bearing in mind Infection Control policies, decontamination processes and COSHH requirements.
  • The successful candidate will be accountable for and manage budgets and ensure cost effectiveness.
  • The post holder will ensure that services are designed and delivered to the highest standard, and are re-designed to meet the needs of patient pathways and performance targets.
  • The post holder will audit and measure patient experience within the area and create and implement actions accordingly.
  • The post holder will be pivotal in ensuring all staff comply with the Trust's protocols and policies and ensuring local standards are kept up to date and reviewed.
  • Will develop further services as required and assist with the delivery of activity.


About us

The department provides care and consultation for patients requiring Outpatient Orthopaedic specialties. This includes but is not limited to elective consultations, surgery follow-up, trauma consultation and treatment, dressing and wound care, plaster care, and telephone consultations.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse or Allied Health Professional
  • oTeaching / Mentoring / Leadership / Management qualification
  • oDegree level of study or significant and relevant experience.


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience at a band 6 level within an outpatient clinic or similar setting Or Equivalent experience of working in/managing an Outpatient service
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling and clinical risk management.


Desirable

  • Specialist knowledge / skills of Surgical specialities
  • Knowledge of Trust policies
