Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our brand new, purpose built, busy Intensive Care Unit. The unit is a 13 bedded (8 Level 3 and 5 Level 2 flexible due to demand) combined critical care unit with 1 paediatric stabilisation bed. The purpose of the Department is to provide high standards of care to a range of critically ill adults and children. The job purpose is to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team without direct supervision to provide technical and clinical support within the Intensive Care Unit, and satellite areas such as theatre, day surgery, acute response team and ED resus.

We are looking for a Registered Operating Department Practitioner to take on the challenge of this exciting role.

The successful applicant will need to have a proven ability to work well within a team, have a clear understanding of health and safety issues, knowledge and understanding of statutory and professional requirements, have effective interpersonal/communication skills and the ability to manage own time and time of others.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in collaboration with the lead nurse and Intensivists within the critical care setting

Attend the morning handover and liaise with the medics and nurse in charge regarding interventions and movement of patient

The preparation and setting up of Ventilators/CPAP equipment for usage

The post holder will work under the guidance and supervision of the ICU Band 6 nursing staff

The post holder will be responsible for the medical devices within the critical care setting, ensuring a comprehensive inventory of equipment is kept.

The post holder will provide support and expert knowledge and skills in the use and evaluation of specialist equipment in the Critical care setting.

The post holder will promote an effective learning environment for medical devices for nurses and anaesthetists in the critical care unit.

The post holder will deliver / organise training/ updates for medical devices for the nursing and anaesthetic staff.

The post holder will maintain links, and work in co-operation with their medical devices representatives/ educators.

The post holder will be aware of when equipment requires updating, and be actively involved in trialling new equipment following evidenced based research.

The post holder will be responsible for equipment checks, eg transfer equipment, airway trollies and resus trollies.
