Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team of paediatric pharmacists on a permanent basis. This is a rotational post within the Children's Hospital looking after children from Southampton and the surrounding area and will initially be based in general paediatrics.

Southampton Children's Hospital is part of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust - one of the largest teaching trusts in the country. We are a major centre for specialist paediatric services in the south of England, providing specialist care not only to our local population in Southampton but for a much larger area, including the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands.

The Paediatric Pharmacy team is well established, providing specialist pharmacy services within the paediatric multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality patient care. The team is forward thinking and supportive, working together to improve the services we offer to patients.

Job responsibilities

Your Responsibilities What youll do

The successful applicant will provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to paediatric and neonatal patients on a rotational basis. You will be expected to work closely with technical services and dispensary teams providing clinical expertise and guidance for individual patients.

This post also includes:
  • Attending consultant ward rounds.
  • Developing evidence-based treatment guidelines in conjunction with specialist consultants and pharmacists.
  • Supporting the neonatal and paediatric nutrition teams.
  • Teaching medical students and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Acting as a role model for junior/newly qualified pharmacists
  • Active membership of the paediatric pharmacy team.
  • Supporting homecare.
  • Audit and research opportunities.
What were looking for
You must be enthusiastic and committed to team working with good communication skills and a commitment to lifelong learning. Previous experience in paediatric pharmacy would be desirable but is not essential. We are able to provide training and staff development; experienced paediatric pharmacists will support you in this role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters Degree MPharm or equivalent
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Awarded or working towards postgraduate certificate or similar e.g. Foundation programme framework
  • Can demonstrate consistent performance in the majority of domains in the RPS Foundation Framework.


Desirable

  • Postgraduate diploma in clinical Pharmacy
  • Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services
  • Experience of dispensary, including ability to screen prescriptions effectively.
  • Experience of audit and evaluative work.


Desirable

  • Relevant experience in the specified clinical area.
  • Experience of project planning and delivery
  • Critical appraisal skills
  • Understanding of healthcare priorities and political agenda
  • Knowledge of JAC prescribing software
  • Development and implementation of guidelines and procedures.
