Job summary

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting a Patient Transport Manager to manage the day-to-day Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) service for the Royal Free Group. You will be based on our Barnet Hospital site with regular travel to the Chase Farm Hospital and others where required.

The Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) is focussed on ensuring that patient journeys are planned, booked and delivered in line with NHS guidelines and the contract expectations. We aim to provide timely responses and excellent customer service at all times, facilitating access to our sites for our patients who are eligible for the patient transport service.

You will be the key point of contact for all site related NEPT queries and issues, being accessible to service users and NEPT providers across several sites and responsible for resolving any issues to ensure service delivery.

Your hours will be 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

As the key point of contact for the NEPT service, you will attend daily site meetings and liaise with the site team, clinical staff and contractors to ensure that patient journeys are booked and completed within the agreed timescales.

You will assist the site team during times of peak workload to proactively manage the movement of patients and to escalate more complex queries, ensuring that patient flow is maintained within the hospital.

You will also be required to travel to the sites under your remit, monitoring the services provided by contract partners and resolving issues as they arise. In addition, you will provide cover for other sites within the RFL Group in the absence of the Royal Free Transport manager.

You will need to be customer service focussed, communicating in a polite and friendly manner, and demonstrating tact and diplomacy when discussing the needs of the service user. You will be able to prioritise tasks and manage your workload according to the needs of the service.

The post holder is responsible for the efficient and effective management of the provision of Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) including:
  • managing the day-to-day NEPT service provision in line with the Trust Governing Objectives and being the main point of contact for all service-related queries and issues.
  • working closely with service users, clinicians and transport providers on a daily basis, providing guidance, direction and support as required and to resolve any service issues.
  • monitoring the usage and performance of the service, including producing reports as requested by the courier, minicab, and transport manager.
  • managing all complaints and incidents relating to the service within contractual timeframes, and ensure lessons learned and/or incident investigation recommendations are shared and fully implemented.
  • proactively identifying and proposing service improvement opportunities.
  • proactively review and update processes and policies in place to ensure the service is safe and efficiently managed at all times.
