Our Neonatal unit provides 2 high dependency cots and 8 special care cots, along side SCBU and a neonatal outreach service is also available. The unit currently provides short term intensive care, high dependency care and special care. Our team is highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals, who are passionate about delivering a provision of high quality service to babies and their families.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated neonatal nurse (RGN/RSCN/Child Branch) with post registration neonatal intensive care qualification) to join our friendly experienced team. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills. The successful candidate will lead/coordinate shifts, be able to work well independently and within the team.

They will also enjoy teaching and supporting junior staff as well as pre-registration student nurses.

This post involves a day/night rotation.

Job responsibilities

• Be self- motivating in ensure the delivery of effective and sensitive evidence based care to a high standard at all times.
• To act as a role model to more junior members of the team.
• Be confident and competent in all areas of nursing practice within sphere of responsibility, enabling delivery of total patient care.
• Assess the needs of patients within the clinical area, plan and implement individualised holistic nursing care.
• To act as an advocate for patients wherever they are within the Trust and hospital setting and to advise colleagues on all matters concerning the nursing care of patients.
• Play an active role in health promotion activities.
• Ensure that Trust policies and procedures are complied with within the unit, informing the ward manager of matters, which affect the implementation of the agreed policies.
• Ensure that standards recommended by professional bodies such as the NMC are adhered to and upheld within the unit. Comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional practice.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

• Registered Nurse Adult or Child
• Qualified in Speciality (Neonates), ENB 405 or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years post registration experience on a neonatal unit at Band 5
• Evidence of Neonatal Advanced Life support training

Desirable

• Experience of project work as lead or active participant
• ENB 997/8 or relevant teaching qualification
• Participation in leadership programme eg Leo or Chrysalis

Knowledge

Essential

• Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within this clinical area
• Knowledge of NMC Codes of Conduct and/or guidance of professional practice
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge of child protection issues

Other

Essential

• Flexibility to work over seven days per week, to support the delivery of a 24hr service
