The post holder will provide support to the Fixed Assets Manager and Capital Reporting Accountant in respect of all financial accounting aspects of the Trusts capital projects.

The post holder will assist in maintaining the Fixed Assets Management (FAM) system, providing timely and relevant information to the Capital Reporting Accountant and the Lead Project Accountant (Capital).

The post holder will lead on the annual physical verification exercise of all non-current assets.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and work across campus and at offsite locations as required.

Main duties of the job

To assist the Fixed Assets Manager and Capital Reporting Accountant in maintaining the Fixed Assets Management (FAM) system.

To assist the Fixed Assets manager in maintaining records and accounts relating to capital acquisitions and disposals.

To lead on the annual physical verification of all equipment, furniture and fittings and vehicles on the Fixed Assets Management (FAM) system, visiting sites and liaising with site managers.

Maintain a financial coding structure in respect of capital expenditure to enable efficient production of monthly scheme reporting and annual account information.

Produce the schedule of capital commitments against capital schemes and reporting variances.

Support the Capital Reporting Accountant and Lead Project Accountant in the drawing up of the annual capital programme and having a robust understanding of the internally generated programme and external funding routes.

To prepare nominated control accounts on a monthly basis, as required, preparing journals to correct as appropriate. This will include investigating items on the finance ledger and liaison with other finance colleagues.

The post-holder is required to translate complex numerical data and technical concepts in a meaningful way to non-finance staff as well as deal with ad-hoc queries.

The role requires the post holder to plan, organise and manage their time effectively, establishing own priorities on a day-to-day basis with minimal management supervision whilst working as part of a team.

The post holder will need to be highly numerate and demonstrate a working knowledge of computerised software packages. The post-holder is required to translate complex numerical data and technical concepts in a meaningful way to non-finance staff as well as deal with ad-hoc queries.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • AAT Member or equivalent experience at degree level
  • Desire for Continuous Professional Development

  • Proven experience of working in Capital Accounting / Financial Management
  • Experience of working with Information Management and Technology including Microsoft Office and Financial Systems.

  • Experience of Capital Accounting within the NHS.
