This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic and creative service for older people and to be part of a psychology team comprised of 19 clinical and assistant psychologists. Specialist interests in the service include systemic work with older people, CBT, neuropsychology, working with carers and service user involvement.

To provide a psychology service to clients of Camden and Islington's Care Home Liaison Teams (CHLTs) in Services for Ageing and Mental Health providing psychological assessment and treatment and offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to referrers, non-psychologist colleagues and other professional and non-professional carers.

The postholder will lead on delivery of psychological interventions within the CHLTs, providing assessment and treatment to patients, and consultation and training to staff, in residential and nursing homes in Camden and Islington. The post holder will clarify the needs of patients and staff, shape how the service is delivered and evaluate its effectiveness.

Main duties of the job

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a clinical or counselling psychologist.
  • Completion of further post-doctoral post-qualification specialist training in areas of practice relevant to the post


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-qualification experience working with older people with severe and enduring mental health needs as well as their families, carers and networks
  • Significant experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team or MHLT.
  • Significant experience of enabling others within a multidisciplinary / staff team to consider psychological factors and deliver psychologically informed interventions.
  • Significant experience of working with behaviour which challenges staff and carers.


Skills

Essential

  • Well-developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.


Abilities

Essential

  • Evidence of interest in and ability to contribute to service development
