We are looking to appoint a Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner to join our growing team. You will work predominantly within the Critical Care Unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital, which is staffed during the day with three Consultant Intensivists and currently at least 6 trainees/JCF/ACCPs. As an ACCP you will form part of the non-consultant medical team.

This role is demanding, requiring significant experience, enthusiasm and drive to ensure the care we provide to our critically ill patients is evidence based, safe and effective. Providing leadership, supervision and education to nursing and junior medical staff will be a significant component of the role.

Educational opportunities will include a bespoke individualised learning portfolio that will be adapted in order to meet your specific learning requirements, ensuring development of competencies required for the role. Development of transfer skills, advanced airway management and FUSIC/ FICE competencies will be actively supported. The role requires supporting and delivering trust educational courses such as AIM's and supporting the education of critical care staff and those in the wider hospital. Clinical supervision will be supported by an allocated Critical Care Consultant and Nurse Consultant.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be part of the team providing daily care to patients on the 32 bed Critical Care Unit and reviewing critically ill patients on the wards and in ED. The on-call is part of the ITU rota with resident senior trainee supervision and a consultant on call as well. There are 2 Consultants during the day at weekends. Appropriate compensatory rest periods are built into the rota in line with agenda for change conditions. Once qualified you will be expected to cover shifts over a 24/7 period.

About us

Our organisation is driven by our strategic objectives and organisational values and we look for people who are strongly aligned to them. The successful applicant will join a flexible, supportive team who work well together. We also have a high commitment to teaching and training, receiving excellent feedback from our trainees.
