Job summary

The Department of Environment team is looking for a committed and innovative individual to fill a position of Decontamination Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity working part time (18.75 hours) to join the department undergoing substantial changes to aspired highest quality, safe and effective environment to care for our patients.

The Decontamination Manager is to provide expert advice and assistance to a wide range of staff, consultants, senior managers and Trust directors on decontamination issues and policy. In addition, the post holder must ensure that all aspects of decontamination management comply with, or are being developed towards, present national laws, regulations, guidance and all recognised standards.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide professional, scientific, technical and overall management of decontamination processes and activities and ensure that all staff are provided with the opportunity and encouragement to develop in accordance with the principles of clinical governance and continuing professional development.

In order to provide insight and context to the levels and needs of decontamination in the various clinical settings the post holder must either hold a current nursing registration or have alternative relevant experience which enables them to have insight and knowledge into the principles of infection prevention & control and decontamination of re-usable medical equipment.

A background of working within the hospital environment and to be able to demonstrate a history of process management and decision-making ability is desirable.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters degree or post-graduate courses and experience to masters equivalent level
  • Relevant knowledge, skills and experience to masters level
  • Evidence of continuous professional development


Desirable

  • Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent Decontamination qualifications such as relevant 'User' courses. NVQ in decontamination
  • Previous employment in a relevant discipline in a healthcare setting


Skills/ Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to plan and execute long-term projects and maintain multiple projects at once.
  • Able to organise, prioritise and manage own workload.
  • Excellent influence skills.
  • Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in interpreting different situations and judging measures required ensuring compliance in areas that relate to the legislation listed above.
  • Experience of providing education & training to decontamination staff and other multi-disciplinary staff.
  • Proven track record in managing staff as well as maintaining good relationships with clinicians, finance and general management.
  • Experience with working closely with senior managerial, consultant, nursing, medical and all other Trust, professional and other national organisations.
  • Experience in implementing cost saving projects.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Specialist extensive knowledge of the techniques employed to measure the performance and safety of state of the equipment.
  • Highly specialist knowledge across the full range of working procedures and practices in Decontamination.
  • Highly specialist knowledge and clinical experience of monitoring and clinical decontamination standards.
  • High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from decontamination failure.
  • Expert understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, international standards, professional and other guidelines
