About us

The ROH in Birmingham is one of the largest orthopaedic centres in Europe. The Trust offers planned specialist care for all orthopaedic subspecialties including joint replacement surgery (arthroplasty), joint arthroscopy and reconstruction (keyhole surgery and ligament repairs), plus hand and foot surgery. A small amount of emergency and urgent activity is undertaken, generally in the field of spinal disorders no trauma activity is undertaken in the early stages after injury. Our estate is comprised of 14 operating theatres, a High Dependency Unit (HDU) and 113 beds across six wards, all on a single site.

In 2019, the Trust was rated as 'Good' by the CQC across all domains. We are regularly rated in the Top 10 trusts in the country for patient experience in the CQC's annual inpatient survey. We also score favourably in national Staff Survey feedback.

The Trust employs circa 1,245 staff, including multi-disciplinary clinical teams comprised of surgeons, nurses, anaesthetists, physiotherapists, radiologists, occupational therapists and other clinical professionals.
