An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Ward Manager for a 18 bedded ward at Falmouth Hospital.

You will be responsible for guiding the team by providing a clinical presence and working alongside them on the ward, providing expertise to facilitate safe, effective, high quality, person centred care.

One of the main responsibilities of the Ward Manager is to support the flow of patients. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain safe staffing levels, deliver effective care and review incidents/complaints/audits.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide managerial and clinical leadership to the nursing team and support
  • To manage the daily running of the ward ensuring effective staff rostering and skill
  • To lead and develop the nursing team
  • To ensure the delivery of high-quality evidence-based patient care within the guidelines of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust policies
  • To promote effective communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary and inter-agency team including medical staff, patients
  • To ensure effective management of ward resources including ward
  • To support and deputise for the Clinical
  • To work flexibly with peers and managers in the Locality, prioritising resources as required

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 1 Nurse with current NMC Registration
  • Educated to Diploma / Degree level with evidence of appropriate post registration skills or equivalent experience
  • Modules relating to specialty field (Elderly care, rehabilitation, palliative care or similar)
  • Current clinical assessment and teaching qualification.


Desirable

  • Management qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Previous Ward management experience


Desirable

  • Previous experience of community hospital nursing
  • Experience of managing personnel issues


Practical & Intellectual Skills (including any special knowledge)

  • Proven written, oral and electronic communication skills including ability to deal with challenging and sensitive situations
