Job summary

As associate Director of Therapies within our Learning Disabilities Division, you will be responsible for the professional leadership of all therapists within the Division. You will also be contributing to the overall divisional operational leadership, as well as providing expert clinical advice.

We are passionate about people and deliver person centred and relationship centred care through an extensive range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Our Learning Disability Services offer a range of services to people in Surrey, North East Hampshire and Croydon including Community Learning Disabilities Services, day opportunity services, registered residential care homes and integrated intensive support services to people with Learning Disabilities, as well as our Adult neurodevelopmental assessment and FASD service.

Psychologists and therapists have embraced multi-disciplinary working including PBS, dementia, autism and other pathways. We are a values led team and our staff are passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities and are continually developing and implementing different approaches to meet peoples needs.We encourage people to be involved in development, audit and research, and as a group have an excellent track record of developing new assessment materials, resources and approaches to support working with people with learning disabilities. Many of our staff are involved in regional and national groups

Main duties of the job

Work across complex systems to provide strategic leadership and ensure the design, development and delivery of therapy-based priorities for the division as set out in our Trusts strategy, local ICS plans and the NHS Long Term Plan.

Develop, in staff of all disciplines delivering therapies in the division, a shared vision of the purpose and values of the Trust, to ensure that the needs of people who use the service and carers are paramount while operating within available resources and delivering best value.

Ensure equitable access to appropriate and evidence-based therapies for the populations served by the Trust, with a particular focus on BME and other under-represented groups.

Support the development and implementation of the Trusts effectiveness framework and ensure that Therapies staff of all disciplines in the division actively engage in routine outcome monitoring and reporting.

Provide leadership to ensure the professional development of all who provide psychological and allied health therapies in the division.

Lead innovative new models of care that deliver better integration across health, social care and voluntary sector, such as integrated mental health in Primary Care Networks.

Work collaboratively with the business development and innovation team to produce sustainable new business opportunities involving therapy pathways and models of care.

Job responsibilities

My job makes better lives by providing professional and operational leadership to the therapies and divisional management functions in line with our values. The post holder will ensure robust professional and management accountability, together with governance arrangements to deliver high quality services. The post holder will also act as an expert clinician resource by providing highly specialist assessment, formulation, treatment and consultation to people using services and our partner organizations.

Job Overview

Responsible for the professional leadership of all therapists within the Division and contributing to the overall operational leadership, as well as providing expert clinical services. Reporting operationally to the Divisional Director and professionally to the Director of Therapies.

Suitable for someone who has the capability and drive to provide a strong Divisional, operational focus and professional leadership of all therapists within their division, and contribute to overall operational leadership, demonstrating authority in driving forward performance, improving quality outcomes and developing services. Able to think and act strategically and be able to inspire teams through their excellent communication, ensuring the continued delivery of high quality services.

Deliver effective and value-based LD Therapy services

Deliver a good experience of LD Therapy services

Ensure LD Therapy staff of all disciplines in the division deliver a good experience of care and actively engage in experience monitoring.

Ensure that the people using services and carers are at the heart of design and innovation within Therapy services.

Improve staff retention and satisfaction by ensuring the Therapies workforce receive regular and appropriate supervision and appraisals.

Deliver safe LD Therapy Services

Ensure that all LD Therapy staff have the appropriate professional registration.

Review, develop and support management and leadership arrangements for therapists in the division, ensuring clear accountabilities for professional practice and day to day working.

Support the Divisional Directors to ensure safe delivery of Therapy services and provide advice on all professional practice related issues.

Support the development of a therapeutic culture and reflective practice approaches across teams.

Deliver a sustainable LD Therapies workforce

Work alongside the Trusts learning and development function to review and develop strategies for a sustainable LD Therapies workforce by making best use of available resources and identifying appropriate career development and CPD opportunities.

Expert Clinical Practice

Enhance the Trust as a learning environment, contribute to strategies to enhance psychological knowledge and skills across the Trust and lead the development of specific evidence-based policies, protocols and guidelines for therapies service delivery.

Contribute professional expertise and perspective into clinical governance and service evaluation.

Provide expert clinical advice to the multi-professional, multi-agency and delegated commissioning panels.

Provide expert assessment, formulation and intervention for people using LD services and their carers.

Resource Management

To manage, motivate and develop staff within the team to ensure they are able to deliver new responsibilities of emerging new service models.

Recruit, develop and lead the LD Therapies workforce to ensure the objectives of our Trust are achieved and effective team working is in place.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional qualification;
  • Masters Degree in a relevant subject and/or equivalent experience;
  • Post-qualification clinical leadership training;
  • Registration with HCPC

  • Experience required
  • Extensive experience of working in a management/leadership role at a senior level supporting clinical teams in the delivery of complex, safety critical health and social care services.
  • Demonstrate experience of leadership within complex, multi-agency systems.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering change and service improvement programs including workforce strategies.
  • Demonstrable experience of professional leadership and development of the Therapies workforce.
  • Experience of managing staff and understanding of financial management processes which may include budget holder
