Job summary

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and self motivated Orthoptist to join our small, friendly team.

The department currently consists of 3 Orthoptists, 7 Consultant Ophthalmologists, all with various sub-specialty interests, in addition to 4 Optometrists and Ophthalmic trained nurses.

Applications are welcomed from newly and recently qualified Orthoptists, in addition to those with experience. Consideration will be given to applicants who do not meet the criteria for band 6, but who are appointable at band 5. (New graduate would start as Band 5 working towards Band 6 run through). Appointment in these circumstances will be subject to satisfactory completion of a specified period of training before moving to band 6.

Role and responsibilities will be dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

In addition to paediatric and adult orthoptic clinics, there is an opportunity to be involved in Peripheral clinics and Stroke clinics, depending on experience. The department is also very supportive of further extended scope work e.g. pre and post-op cataract assessment, AMD clinics (inc. IVT/injections) etc. We have Orthoptists and Optometrist working in a variety or roles and would love to expand further! A desire to undertake such roles (with training) would be desirable.

Training and study time will be provided where necessary but the applicant must be willing to commit some of their own time too.
