We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic inpatient therapy team at Watford General Hospital. The post covers the medical wards which comprises Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Haematology, Rheumatology and general medical.

Main duties of the job

The inpatient therapy service would welcome applications for this full time post, but those interested in part time are also welcome to apply. The post is part of 7 day working and would be included in that rota (frequency of 1:6 weekends) with rest days in the following week.

In terms of support and personal development, there are existing Band 7 Occupational Therapists within our department and a part time Band 7 already within the medical team. This provides peer support, as well as a well-established probationary, supervision and appraisal process. We also are able to support our Band 7 staff through the Trust's leadership and development programmes.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients who may have diverse, chronic presentation and highly complex physical and psychological conditions. To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated, and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner and ensure others do the same.

To plan, coordinate and evaluate the Occupational Therapy Service provided on a day-to-day basis.

To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge and skills from theoretical and practical experience.

To be responsible for supervision, education and assessment of Band 6 Occupational Therapists and to oversee the supervision and education of other more junior, support staff and student Occupational Therapists.

To undertake/lead evidence-based audit and research projects to develop and enhance personal and teams clinical practice within their area to make recommendations to Clinical Lead/Head of Service for changes to practice by the team to implement specific changes to practice to write and/or contribute to service protocols.

To participate and contribute to the Inpatient Therapy 7 day working rota.
