This exciting Quality and Safety Fellowship opportunity is open to all senior nurses and allied health professionals (Band 7 and above). The post-holder will undertake the Fellowship at Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and should have experience of working in such a setting.

The Fellowship will support the candidate to develop an attractive portfolio of professional leadership and quality/patient safety capabilities, by working closely with the senior leadership of one of the largest, complex Healthcare Trusts.

The Fellow will undertake a Quality/ Safety Improvement project as part of their tenure. The main focus of the project is to lead improvement work across the relevant division, around our commitment as an organisation to improve coordinated, integrated, and evidence-based care through focusing on key areas including care planning and patient safety and physical healthcare.

During the one-year post there is an opportunity, with funding to undergo training leading to a Postgraduate Certificate in 'Quality and Patient Safety Improvement' or an equivalent qualification in a relevant area to support professional development.

The aim of the post is to allow the incumbent to become both proficient in and credentialed in a wide variety of skills related to quality and patient safety. The post will be approximately 20% clinical, 20% academic and 60% related to a project associated with improving quality and patient safety. The post holder will work across relevant sites across the Healthcare Trust.

This is a Divisional Position with support from the Trusts Quality Team whose responsibilities include: leading the implementation and monitoring effectiveness of the Trusts Quality Strategy, CQC compliance, patient safety, claims management, management of inquests, clinical effectiveness, management of complaints and mental health legislation administration. This team, led by the Associate Director of Quality supports the Executive Director of Nursing, AHPs and Quality, Executive Medical Director and the three clinical divisions.

This is an exciting year long Quality and Safety Fellowship opportunity open to all senior nurses and allied health professionals (Band 7 and above).

During the one-year fixed term or secondment contract, there is an opportunity, with funding for the Fellow to undergo training leading to a Postgraduate Certificate in Quality and Patient Safety Improvement (worth �3800) or an equivalent qualification in a relevant area to support professional development . Should the Fellow wish to pursue study after the end of their contract they are at liberty to use credits gained towards an MSc.

The fellowship will provide the post holder with training and experience in a number of Quality and Patient Safety improvement methodologies and be supported by colleagues in the Trusts Nursing, AHP and Quality Team and the Trust Quality Improvement team.

The Fellow will undertake a Quality/ Safety Improvement project as part of their tenure. The main focus of the project is to lead improvement work across the relevant division [mental health, forensics or community] around our commitment as an organisation to improve coordinated, integrated, and evidence-based care through the adoption of a collaborate care planning model and or improving physical healthcare.

The fellow will be able to attend a range of senior management meetings as arranged by Divisional and Corporate Quality, Corporate Governance and Quality Improvement Teams. They will also be able to:

• To develop knowledge and skills in Quality, Patient Safety Improvement and Leadership
• To take responsibility for improving quality and patient safety through applying improvement methodologies to clinically relevant quality and patient safety priorities in the organisation
• To develop excellent negotiating and influencing skills in support of delivering safety improvements
• To develop skills in motivating and supporting colleagues in teams and organisations
• To develop and apply academic knowledge and skills associated with patient safety, human factors and quality improvement science [facilitated either through the University of Nottingham Quality and Patient Safety Improvement course or the Institute of Healthcare Improvement Open School] or a suitable alternative course in support of the individuals personal and professional requirements
• To utilise local and national networks and experts to support the delivery of improvements in patient safety [such as through the national Q community]
• Work closely with the Assistant Directors of Nursing, Deputy Chief Nurse, Medical Directors Office, Associate Director of Quality, the Deputy Chief Nurse, Heads of Patient Safety and Quality Governance and other Fellows to ensure the delivery and sustainability of the Fellowship Programme.
