Sherwood Oaks is a purposed designed 70 bedded Adult Mental Health Inpatient service located on the outskirts of Mansfield.

The hospital has 4 single sex wards and a hospital-based place of safety (Section 136 suite) all providing single person accommodation with en-suites. Sherwood Oaks Hospital provides high quality care 24 hours a day 7 days a week to people over the age of 18 from Nottingham City and County who are experience a range of mental health and emotional difficulties.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking proactive, compassionate, caring and recovery focused registered nurses with excellent communication skills to join our existing dynamic multidisciplinary teams to be involved in extensive assessments and formulations to support the planning and delivery of patients care. The multidisciplinary teams all work in a way that is collaborative, evidenced based and responsive to people's needs.

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of �2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. This post also includes paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during night, weekends and bank holidays.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To provide a defined level of assessment and access to interventions for a diverse patient group and their families under the care programme approach, who present with significant mental health problems/disorders.

To provide a realistic timely and occasionally intensive support to patients within an Inpatient setting. To provide education and supervision to junior staff members, peers and other professionals

A registered nurse (Mental Health/Learning Disability) with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

The role requires a clinician with skills to assess patients needs, analyse and develop treatment plans within a multidisciplinary framework.

To assess, plan, implement, promote and evaluate safe, creative and effective treatment plans in collaboration with the patients diverse needs, their carers and other professionals. Interventions will be evidence based and designed to reduce stress and anxiety, manage risk and aid recovery.

To maintain accurate, timely and relevant clinical records both written and computerised.

To maintain the safe custody of healthcare records. Responsible for the safe monitoring, management and administration of medication as required by Trust policy.

To be aware of and apply the principles of Infection Prevention and Control and to comply with policy, procedure and guidance.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Qualification (Mental Health/Learning Disabilities) to degree level or equivalent
  • Maintains current registration with the NMC


Desirable

  • Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding


Desirable

  • Specialist and area specific experience


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good written/oral communication skills
