Job summary

This is an exciting time to join a growing team of dynamic professionals as early intervention is becoming a growing priority nationally.

We are looking for highly motivated, creative individuals to join our team that is committed to improving child and adolescent mental health in Hertfordshire.

Step2 is an Early Intervention CAMHS service that is seeking to recruit an innovative, enthusiastic practitioner who has significant experience of working therapeutically with young people both individually and through group work which is an area that is continually developing. The individual will be committed to providing high quality care for children and young people while working in a dynamic, supportive and caring team.

Main duties of the job

You will be delivering highly skilled clinical work and will be expected to work flexibly, willing to work across the County of Hertfordshire and be able to adapt the way you work to best meet the needs of our most vulnerable children and families.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Qualification relevant to child mental health at postgraduate level or accredited as a mental health practitioner
  • Training in a specific mental health intervention such as CBT, attachment focused or systemic psychotherapy


Desirable

  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of legislation and policy and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with young people and families
  • Experience working in a brief intervention model


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • The ability to engage with the client group and their families and to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship amid complex and painful difficulties
  • The ability to work with children and young people with complex needs, safeguarding and vulnerable clients
  • The ability to manage conflict and challenging situations
  • The ability to work and co-operate actively as a member of a team and with the wider professional network including other agencies
  • Willingness to use and learn from clinical feedback tools
  • A willingness to seek help and utilise the skills of others as appropriate. This includes the use of clinical supervision and promoting mutual support in a team context
  • IT skills
  • Ability to work with young people whose behaviour is personally challenging and with support, deal with frequent exposure to highly distressing or highly emotional circumstances
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and boundaries with young people
  • Ability to provide a therapeutic environment which contributes to young people's healthy development
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours
  • Act within general health, organisational and other occupational policies
  • Ability to think clearly, express self and maintain intense concentration on a frequent basis
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • Ability to be flexible and respond to rapid changes

  • An understanding of Children's IAPT, Thrive and NICE
  • The ability to identify criteria for setting priorities, and set them accordingly and manage the workload dictated by these
  • The ability to plan and organise complex activities requiring formulation, action planning and strategic thinking
  • The capacity to recognise and identify personal training


Personal Qualities

Essential

  • A willingness to contribute to the evaluation of services, enthusiasm for audit and a wish to continue to develop expertise in the service area
  • Ability to work in isolation and manage own caseload timely and efficiently
  • Ability to use effective time management and organisational management skills
  • Willingness to uphold the Trust's values
  • Eligible to live and work in the UK
  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving license and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
  • Understands the impact on equality, diversity and inclusion issues in all aspects of service delivery and planning
