The Surrey-Wide Specialist Eating Disorder Service for Children and Young People provides care and support to people up to 18 years of age in their local communities. We offer accessible multi-professional assessment and treatment services for children and young people with eating disorders registered in Surrey. We are looking to recruit one or more Systemic Family Therapists to the team. You will be joining an established and supportive team of specialist clinicians and therapists.

The post holders will provide a highly specialist Systemic Psychotherapy which will be based on specialist knowledge about helping young people and their families with eating disorders. These are exciting roles, and we are looking to recruit a Band 7 post which would suit a newly qualified systemic psychotherapist. We have an experienced band 8a Psychotherapist who will support with supervision and development.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with the Service Manager, Professional Lead and the Family Therapy Lead to support the full implementation of Family Therapy for our service users and parents/carers following NICE Guidelines for Eating Disorders. You will also support any Family Therapy Trainees within EDS. There is the hope that the successful candidate or candidates will set up a Family Therapy Team and Screen and supervise Family therapy students.

We currently treat all young people presenting with Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Due to the 2016 NHSE Access and Waiting Times Guidance for Eating Disorders , we have developed additional pathways to ensure more timely delivery of evidenced based psychological therapies for all of our children and young people. These new posts will enhance that remit. The team is very well established and performing to an outstanding level.

It is essential that you are a car driver and have use of a car as you will be required to attend relevant meetings for your clients. Training and research opportunities are available, and we have strong links with the Adult ED Team.

Job Overview (Band 7): This post is suitable for a newly qualified Systemic Psychotherapist. Some CAMHS and/ or Eating Disorders experience would be desirable but not essential. The successful applicant would preferably have experience in the assessment and treatment of children and young people with mental health issues. To provide timely assessment of children and young people who are referred to he specialist Eating Disorders Team and provide care planning and support for their care and create individualised treatment plans. Deliver on the following key area and lead team functioning with particular focus on the following areas: To provide high quality, specialist evidence-based systemic family therapy assessment and treatment to children and adolescents with eating disorders and their families and professional networks. To work autonomously within the Association Family Therapy (AFT), UKCP and Trust guidelines. To support audit and research activities and to propose and implement policy changes within the area served by the team. To support on outcomes and research with the 8a Clinical Psychologist and 8b Family Therapist and be fully cognisant in the NHSE Access and Waiting Times Targets and production of Outcomes Reports for NHSE, CCGs and SABP. Through Triage, and close liaison with the Single Point of Access team, provide, early identification, management, assessment and intervention for CYP with eating disorders following AWT guidance. Qualifications required Driving License suitable for use in the United Kingdom and use of a car. Current or imminent successful completion of an MA in Systemic Family Psychotherapy. Current or imminent Registration with UKCP. Current or imminent registration with AFT. Experience required Minimum of 1 years post graduate experience working in the field of child and adolescent Mental Health. Experience working with eating disorders is preferable. Suitable for someone who Is passionate about developing and providing high quality, evidence-based care and treatment to young people with eating disorders and their families. Clinical: 1)To provide a specialist systemic assessment of clients referred to the team incorporating complex information from other professionals. To make decisions about treatment options taking into account evidence based research, theory, practice and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes which have impacted on the child and their family 2)To provide highly specialist short or long term systemic therapy for children/adolescents with severe, complex and persistent mental health problems, for parents/carers who may be vulnerable and have an eating disorder, for families who may have complex and persistent problems, for children/adolescents and their parents. To work in ways which are sensitive to and appropriate for the needs of families from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds 3)To exercise responsibility and autonomy for the treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed within the CED Service, ensuring appropriate assessment, interpretation and intervention, communicating with the referrer and others involved with the care on a regular basis 4)To provide systemic advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing to a treatment plan 5)To effectively communicate professional opinion verbally and in writing and to provide highly specialist assessment reports for Social Services, Courts and Solicitors as required 6)To use as required a range of theoretical and practical knowledge for work with children/adolescents and their parents 7)To provide specialist systemic consultation, advice, support and guidance to other professionals working in the service in order to maintain high standards of work with children. To make SFT theory and practice accessible to clinicians and other staff members in the team 8)To act autonomously as Care Coordinator and/or Lead professional, as required, taking responsibility for initiating, planning and review of care plans including patients, their family, carers, referring agents and other professionals involved in the network of care. This includes organising case conferences and professional network meetings where appropriate 9)To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner information, including assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients and to monitor progress during the course of uni and multi-disciplinary treatment 10)To work in accordance with CEDS objectives by adhering to Trust policies; deploying risk assessment thinking and practice in clinical work, ensuring written records are up to date and attending and contributing a child view in case discussions and team meetings 11)To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group 12)To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide general advice to other professionals. 13)To support the re-implementation and facilitation of a Team and Screen interventions for suitable families.
