We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to support us on our Eastleigh Community Mental Health Team. As a psychiatrist, we are looking for a forward thinking, dynamic consultant who would offer first class clinical leadership within our Mental Health services

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based at Desborough House, Eastleigh Hampshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing assessment, clinical care, and treatment to patients, as well as clinical leadership to the team. The work will include routine clinics, domiciliary visits, consultative work to the multidisciplinary team and leadership, particularly around complex patients. The consultant will have the support of a core Psychiatry trainee, shared across two consultants, with designated clinical supervisor responsibilities.

The CMHT provides a local single point of access for individuals who present with severe, complex, and enduring mental health problems between the ages of 18-65. CMHT services are multi-disciplinary and share a common orientation promoting the principles of recovery. Team consists of psychiatrists, psychologists, community mental health nurses, occupational therapists, support workers and carer's support workers and admin colleagues.

The role of the CMHT is to provide assessment and community-based treatment which is undertaken in partnership with the referred individuals, and focusses on individual needs, self-determination, and recovery. To achieve this, CMHT works closely with other Southern Health services, Acute services, Specialist Services, Primary Care services, local community networks, Voluntary organisations and other agencies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the
  • Mental Health Act 1983.


Desirable

  • Relevant Higher De-gree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other addi-tional clinical qualifi-cations


Experience

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge in spe-cialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social
  • perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Eng-lish
  • Able to manage clinical com-plexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on ev-idence and experience
  • including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA


Desirable

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Proven track record in clinical leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high quality care and maintain staff morale
  • Ability to use IT, including e-mail and the internet
  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Ability to appraise own performance as a consultant
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff
  • Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a consultant

  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leader-ship skills
  • Additional Clinical Qualification
