We have a vacancy for a full time Consultant Psychiatrist 10 PAs (40 hours per week) who will be responsible for providing clinical input and leadership to a proportion of the inpatients on Farnham Road Hospital as part of the acute care pathway.

Farnham Road Hospital, Guildford, Surrey is the new purpose built 60 bedded working age adult in-patient Hospital. It is expected that the post holder will provide Consultant Psychiatrist input and Responsible clinician cover for a 18-bedded ward mainly serving the population of aligned to the wards alongside another Consultant. The post holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary staff on the ward, including trainee doctors.

Main duties of the job

- The post-holder will be responsible for delivering consultant psychiatric input to inpatients admitted to the ward in line with the agreed Acute Service Operational Policy.

- The post holder will provide clinical leadership and be actively involved in service improvement activity. Waverley is one of the most prosperous boroughs in the United Kingdom with relatively low morbidity for mental health conditions.

- To provide senior medical input ensuring safe and timely service provision for service users.

- To provide intensive and expert intervention and management of service users with acute, chronic, and severely enduring mental illness in line with the acute inpatient and PICU care pathway.

- To liaise with both internal and external interfaces concerning admissions and transfers/discharges.

- To liaise with the Consultant Psychiatrists working in the home treatment and community settings concerning admissions and transfers/discharges.

- To ensure that a high quality safe clinical service is provided to all service users by working in partnership with the MDT, ward manager and other senior managers.

- To ensure excellence in the provision of medical and psychiatric assessments to all referred service users to the service including using risk assessment protocols.

- To work in partnership with the ward manager and be jointly responsible for matters related to clinical governance and financial management.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • A recognised basic Medical Degree and MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full Medical Registration (GMC) with a Licence to Practice
  • Approved Clinician Status and approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing clinical leadership


Desirable

  • Previous experience of service improvement activity.
