Infectious Diseases is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated Deputy Sister to complement our existing friendly team. Within the CAS division we have 13 beds and care for a variety of patients both male and female, of varying ages ranges. We specialise in infectious and tropical diseases and our patients come from a diverse background.

Deputy Ward Sister / Deputy Charge Nurse37.5 hoursTeam Nightingale are a 13 bedded acute medical ward specialising in the care of patients with infectious / tropical diseases / infections. We pride ourselves in the quality of our nursing care.The current Ward Manager is specifically looking for an individual whom is willing to undertake positive change and would be willing to work towards developing a specific learning pathway for you.Nightingale Ward is committed to providing the highest quality of care and maintaining consistent high standards in a professional and friendly atmosphere. We have an active Shared Governance Council.

You in turn will be fully supported and have opportunity to influence future nursing practices.

Applicants should be:1st level registered nurse/degree in health nursing related studies.Have 3 years post registration experience Infectious Diseases Experience (desirable) Be willing to develop personally and professional

Be willing to undertake the CAS band 6 development course.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will act as Deputy to the Ward Manager. They will be required to:

Act as the deputy to the ward manager / charge nurse regularly taking charge of the ward and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.

Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care ensuring that these are evaluated and amended as appropriate.

Document the condition and progress of patients and report to medical staff and/or our doctors any area of concern.

Undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines.

Demonstrate clinical procedures to registered and unregistered staff as required.

Participate in the support and implementation of Essence of Care guidelines.

Be aware of your role with regard to the Medicines Code of Practice.

Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to patient and staff safety.

Liaise with other clinical areas providing appropriate policies, education and clinical expertise in order to facilitate the management of patients with special requirements.

Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently.
