We have a new vacancy for a diagnostic radiology (DR) physicist within the Radiological Sciences Unit of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT), due to the expansion of our team. This role provides support to senior physicists including those certificated as RPAs and MPEs, whilst building on the experience gained through training. The successful applicants will work in a helpful, friendly and dynamic team, delivering scientific advice and technical support in diagnostic radiology and radiation safety to ICHNT and external organisations.

The position offers excellent opportunities for learning and developing skills, and will broaden your experience across all aspects of Diagnostic Radiology and Ionising Radiation Protection.

Ideally, you will have working experience in some or all of the areas of quality assurance, radiation safety, teaching and training and will be a clinical scientist registered with HCPC.

Candidates with less experience or who are working towards registration are encouraged to apply as training and support will be available (subject to an amended job description and salary band), including support to complete STP training.

The Trust has a full range of state-of-the-art imaging equipment and a dose management system. The Radiological Sciences Unit provides a broad range of clinical service support, teaching and research in all imaging modalities at Hammersmith, Charing Cross and St Mary's Hospitals as well as other Trusts in and around the London area

Main duties of the job

• To provide scientific and technical expertise in Radiological Physics to the Trust and other organisations, in line with service requirements.
• To contribute to the provision of Service Level Agreements with other Trusts and external organisations in line with the policies of the Radiological Sciences Unit and the Imaging Directorate.
• To carry out teaching and training activities in line with the strategy of the Head of RSU and Head of Radiological Physics.

Essential

• BSc (Hons) in Physics or equivalent
• MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent

Desirable

• Registered Clinical Scientist (HCPC), or expectation to achieve registration within 1 year

Skills/ Abilities

Essential

• Proven competence in understanding and application of DR physics and radiation safety
• Specialist knowledge and understanding of radiation regulations, recommendations and guidelines.

• Relevant experience in radiation safety applied to use of ionising radiation in medicine and of diagnostic radiology physics
• Able to performance test a wide range of diagnostic x-ray imaging equipment - simple to mid-range systems on own, more complex systems with supervision.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, Access: able to set up databases and spreadsheets and extract information.
• Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from radiation exposure and of the image quality requirements for a range of diagnostic imaging procedures
