Main duties of the job

This post is suitable for an individual who has advanced clinical skills, extensive experience of clinical research delivery and advanced knowledge of research activity and governance. They require the ability to provide leadership and management to junior members of the multi-disciplinary team with responsibility to ensure the successful delivery of multiple research studies of varying complexity and at various timepoints.

Job responsibilities

The Reproductive Health and Neonatal Research Team is a multi-disciplinary clinical research delivery team that provides women and their families with opportunities to participate in a broad range of research studies across a variety of specialty areas. The team predominantly works across the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Centre for Life sites working within maternity care, reproductive medicine, and gynecological services with opportunities to work increasing across both the acute and community settings.

We are a large, team who support the delivery of a broad portfolio of research studies ranging from early phase experimental trials, clinical trials of investigational medicinal products and observational studies. We work in close collaboration with local, regional, and national colleagues, partnership organisations and networks to increase research opportunities and impact in line with our recently launched Trust NMAHP Strategy 2022 2027 and Our Clinical Research Strategy 2021 2026 . We have an excellent track record of supporting staff members within the team to achieve further academic attainment and strive to ensure that this is prioritised for those who are keen to develop themselves in this way.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of multiple research studies (up to 20) at varying stages of development.
  • Responsibility includes being the Line Manager of staff members and monitoring and raising the standard of nursing/midwifery/AHP input and research output within the team / department.
  • Will ensure that all research undertaken within the department safeguards the wellbeing of patients and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.
  • In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team the post holder will facilitate the production of good quality research.
  • Will participate in education programs / study days in advanced clinical skills / techniques, research activity and / or research governance and will identify and meet the training needs of junior research staff and students.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Evidence of achievement in current post and on-going professional development
  • Knowledge and understanding of current relevant NHS policy context
  • Ability to integrate nursing knowledge and skills within the research aspects of the job
  • Understanding of application of research within Clinical and Research Governance agenda


Desirable

  • Specialist course in area of practice


SKILLS

Essential

  • Have developed skills in professional accountability in a leadership role
  • Good IT skills
  • Intravenous drug administration
  • Venepuncture and intravenous cannulation
  • Scrub skills relevant to speciality / anaesthetic skills appropriate to speciality
  • Advanced organisational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of development and organisation


EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of leading a team at senior level or equivalent
  • Relevant specialist qualification / experience
  • Extensive clinical practice or specialist qualification in relevant specialty
  • Experience of adult / child safeguarding
  • Experience of managing and leading nursing / clinical teams
  • Audit / research experience
  • Experience in research permissions submission


QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch) / Registered Healthcare Professional
  • Current Professional registration (e.g. NMC/HCPC etc)
  • Degree level knowledge or working towards completion (i.e. on pathway)
  • Meets Professional Body requirements for mentorship if relevant to role


Desirable

  • Master's degree
  • Leadership / management qualification
