Apprentice Advanced Clinical Practitioner - (Band 6 / 7)

Band 6 - Year one (Applicants who already hold a substantive band 7 relevant post will have their current grade honoured in year one)

Band 7 - Year Two & Three (on successful progression through MSc modules and completion of end point assessment)

Fixed Term 3 Years - (Substantive Band 8a awarded upon successful completion of MSc Advanced Practice and core competencies)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Advanced Clinical Practitioner. The apprentice advanced clinical practitioner role is a 3-year training programme which the post holder will study at post-graduate level to gain a master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice at an approved Higher Education Institute (HEI). In order to achieve qualification as an ACP, you must successfully achieve the completion of an end-point assessment.

The apprentice ACP post is part subsided by HEE (Health Education England) and offers of employment is subject to:
  • Funding secured from HEE
  • A place gained on an HEI approved apprentice advanced practice course
  • NHS pre-employment checks
  • Proof of achieving Maths and English at Level 2 or willing to undertake.

Main duties of the job

Alongside academic studies, the apprentice ACP is required to successfully complete advanced practice clinical core competencies. These competencies may be provided by the trust or national competencies depending on the area in which you work. Initial first year training may take place within the Acute Medicine clinical areas (Acute Assessment Unit & Same Day Emergency Care) in order to support the ACPs knowledge and skills development with peer support from experienced ACPs before moving to a specialty area.

Part of the apprentice standard is a minimum of 30hours per week is required for clinical contract. Directed study time of 7.5 hours per week will be allocated. This study time is also to be used to maintain compliance with mandatory training.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with relevant professional body (NMC part 1, children or allied health professional governing body.
  • Degree- level registration qualification or equivalent post-registration award.
  • Appropriate specialist level qualifications
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Life Support qualifications
  • Relevant teaching qualification / evidenced experience
  • oNon-medical prescribing or commitment to undertake the educational programme whilst training.


Desirable

  • Dual trained (Adult / Paediatric)
  • ALS provider / instructor
  • Experience of working within emergency medicine
  • Working towards a master's degree in advanced practice.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience working within paediatric acute / emergency setting.
  • Ability to work with and motivate nurses and medical staff
  • Evidence of managing complex patients in stressful and emotional situations where life-changing events are being communicated and clinically managed
  • Evidence of contribution or leading audit programs within practice
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and the practical application of new skills to the workplace
  • Cultural awareness


Desirable

  • Working at a band 6 or 7 level or equivalent experience
  • Managerial responsibilities
  • Direct supervision of junior staff
