We are delighted to be recruiting for a Peripatetic Practice Assessor to join our Practice Education Team. You will report directly to the Practice Placement Facilitators and Lead Nurse for Practice Education.

This exciting new role will assist in the delivery of high-quality practice placements for our student nurses throughout the organisation. The post holder will work alongside clinical assessors and supervisors to support, assess, and educate student nurses and staff. Applications are invited from motivated and experienced nurses, who have excellent communication, inter-personal skills and have the ability to work autonomously across a variety of areas within hospital and community settings. They will need to demonstrate a problem-solving approach and have a keen interest in student education.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high-quality practice assessments for learners in the clinical setting contributing to a high-quality learning environment and will be required to work Trust wide within services and organisations where inter-professional learning opportunities are provided. The post holder will also be required to work with placement team to promote and implement the use of coaching models and clinical supervision for learners in practice. The post holder will be required to support the breadth of the student experience, which may require cross boundary working. The peripatetic assessor will work proactively to minimise student issues and promote student nurse education.

About us

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our leading facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon urgent care centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead. Established in 2005, we were one of the first foundation trusts in the country and since then have consistently achieved the highest levels of care for patients. Job responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for supporting student nurses using a variety of methods to promote student retention and role satisfaction. The post holder will spend the majority of their time in practice building effective relationships with practice staff, students, and patient groups.

Provision of pastoral support and signposting.

The post holder will participate in the development of educational programs and curriculum development to ensure skills and knowledge taught in HEIs reflect anticipated future practice needs.

The post holder will work in partnership with ward and placement areas to promote high quality placement experiences. The post holder will provide advice and guidance on NMC standards, student proficiencies and use of electronic pad student records.

The post holder will promote compliance of health roster for effective allocation of students across the 24hour period and over a 7-day week.

The postholder will ensure all relevant records and high standards of care are maintained.

The post holder will promote education and engage practice areas in supporting students, maximising placement capacity and student retention, periodically working alongside learners in a range of care settings.

The post holder will facilitate and help with the orientation and induction of new learners and contribute to the teaching, supervision, and assessment of relevant learners in their placement areas (within own scope of practice).

The post holder will act in the role of peripatetic practice assessor for pre-registration student nurses providing practical support, guidance, and coaching. This will involve the signing of relevant supervision proficiencies and collating evidence for practice assessment.

The post holder is expected to maintain their clinical experience and skills to support students in practice and work clinically during periods of high clinical pressure on the organisation.

The post holder will contribute to assessing the quality of learning environments against quality standards, working alongside the practice placement facilitators to carry out essential educational audits.

The post holder will contribute to the maintenance and quality of data recorded on the local assessor database and relevant placement systems.

The post holder must ensure early escalation of practice concerns, identify, and challenge unsafe practice and escalate appropriately to ensure a safe outcome.

The post holder will respond to placement concerns to ensure effective resolution and maintenance of high-quality placement experiences, escalating to relevant senior nurses as required.

The post holder will be required to work with placement team to promote and implement the use of coaching models and clinical supervision for learners in practice.

Ensuring timely EPAD completion and staff are well educated around EPAD

Essential

  • Graduate Level in Nursing BSc
  • Practice Assessor with significant experience
  • 1st Level Live Registered nurse
