Job summary

Are you a paediatric pharmacist looking for a new challenge?

Or a pharmacist with an adult background who could be interested in a secondment to gain paediatric experience?

Covering the substantive post-holder's Maternity Leave, this job will involve close working with the Paediatric Rheumatology MDT and patients under their care, as well as with the growing Family Health Pharmacy Team.

The post holder will also act as the link Pharmacist for Paediatric Dermatology, with the opportunity to further develop the Pharmacy service to this speciality.

The role requires you to be approachable, hardworking, have good attention to detail, be self-motivated and have a patient-centered attitude. To partake in specialised clinical pharmacy duties within Paediatric Rheumatology and inpatient Paediatric care, ensuring core clinical pharmacy activities are undertaken

To act as the link pharmacist for Paediatric Dermatology, with the potential to further develop the Pharmacy service to this speciality.

Leadership, management and specialty/service support roles, particularly in relation to inpatient Paediatric Medicine and Paediatric Medical Day Case attendances.

To line manage and support more junior pharmacists in the Family Health Division

To take full part in the weekend rota and bank holidays duties

To take part in senior pharmacist on-call duties

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be based mainly at the QMC campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. You will be required to participate in a rostered flexible shift working system including evening, weekend and bank holiday arrangements over a 7 day period and support the on-call pharmacists through the senior pharmacist back-up rota.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • B.Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or MPharm
  • GPhC registered
  • Diploma/MSc in clinical pharmacy or other appropriate post graduate qualification
  • Demonstrate continued professional development


Desirable

  • Related post graduate qualification
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (MRPharmS)
  • Play an active role in a relevant national network / specialist pharmacist group
  • Leadership and management qualifications
  • Independent prescribing qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Broad previous experience (post registration) of clinical pharmacy, particularly in acute settings
  • Broad knowledge base of a wide range of clinical areas
  • Experience of developing and implementing medicines and service related policies for a specialty.
  • Some experience of line management, including effective performance management, recruitment and allocation of staff
  • Some experience of excellent leadership and management skills
  • Experience of training and education of both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and team working at Pharmacy and Trust level
  • Understanding of issues affecting the NHS


Desirable

  • Experience of working in Paediatrics
  • Publication of audit/research/clinical work at national level
  • Experience of working actively on national groups
  • Experience in undertaking, supervising and reporting/presenting audit / research work at local (Trust) level
  • Effective liaison with relevant Trust level committees / groups or equivalent
  • Experience in project management (including department-wide roles) and evidence of completed outcomes


Communication and relationship skills

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiating and presentation skills, both written and verbal -must be able to communicate highly complex drug or medicine related information to prescribers, clinicians, patients, relatives, relevant Trust committees and other stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills with multidisciplinary team members and own profession.
  • Able to defend opinions in a confident and constructive manner when challenged.
  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with relevant senior clinicians, managers and stakeholders.
  • Empathy with patients, relatives and pharmacy customers.

  • Experience of writing compelling business cases or case of need for service development


Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

  • Critical evaluation of literature and literature searching skills for analysing, interpreting medicines information, production issues, drug therapy decisions and patient information.
  • Experience of assessing and minimising risk associated with service provision and within medication processes
  • Able to critically analyse information and evidence and to communicate the findings clearly in simple terms.
  • Ability to work alone and make decisions within agreed parameters ; and appropriate referral / escalation as necessary
  • Experience in making judgements involving highly complex facts, which require analysis, interpretation and options appraisal e.g. drug expenditure; medicines optimisation
  • Ability to maintain and monitor database of medicines and activity related information e.g. medicines expenditure and usage ; rotas etc.
  • Think creatively to support departmental strategy and overall Trust objectives, with evidence of incorporating innovative and 'best practice' into current practice.

Planning and organisation skills

Essential

  • Ability to plan and organise existing and new clinical pharmacy services to a specialty. This may include creation and adjustment of plans.

  • Self-motivated with excellent organisational skills, able to motivate others, to manage time effectively and work to deadlines, even when under pressure.
  • Positive thinker, problem solver, ability to think laterally to develop new ideas.
