Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset are looking for a Falls and Moving & Handling Lead tosupport the Associate Professor of Nursing Practice/Head of Clinical Practice in ensuring the organisation has an effective framework and infrastructure to meet all National and Local Guidelines and Strategies for Falls and the statutory requirements relating to moving & handling legislation.

The post holder will support an open and transparent culture, demonstrating UHD trust values where continuous improvement are embedded at all levels within the organisation to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, patient-centred services.

The main purpose of this role is to provide professional and strategic leadership, acting as an expert practitioner for both the Falls and Moving & Handling services.

You will be responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of an integrated falls strategy for UHD. This will be structured by NICE technical appraisals and quality standards, NHS England guidance and recommendations, together with the Royal College of Physicians guidelines and specialist initiatives and will meet both national and local drivers to facilitate the improvement of falls risk management in acute care.

You will effectively develop the implementation of the falls risk management strategy across the acute patient areas, thereby identifying themes and trends and identify changes required to reduce the numbers of Falls.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered practitioner (nurse, physio, OT)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Demonstrable knowledge of multifactorial aetiology and management of falls


Desirable

  • Accredited moving & handling qualification e.g. National Back Exchange/EDGE
  • Specialist Falls management qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience in clinical setting
  • Experience of the audit and quality assurance
  • Experience of prevention and management of falls in clinical practice


Knowledge

Essential

  • Detailed (practical and theoretical) knowledge in patient moving & handling, falls prevention and mobility assessments, care planning
  • Knowledge of wider NHS agenda including CQC Essential Standards
  • Understanding of NICE guidelines and quality standards in relation to falls prevention & management and moving & handling
